n64 controller

This shit's also good for NES and GBA games if they don't need the Select button
Why'd they make the dpad so good on this when most N64 games don't even use it but then cheap out so hard on the GCN controller when that has a whole Game Boy Player

the gamecube d pad is literally the exact same part as the game boy advance d pad, why would that not be suitable for the game boy player

The idea was to phase out 2D games entirely, making the D-Pad vestigial. People eventually realized that 2D games still have appeal, and that's why it came back in full force in the wii generation.

The idea behind the N64 controller was to be able to return to d-pad gaming in case the analog stick wasn't any good for 3d games or 3d games failing entirely to 2d games. This seems silly and obvious to us, but thumbsticks for 3d gaming wasn't the standard then. The GameCube controller didn't have a d-pad at first because Nintendo wanted entirely to go 3d gaming in all aspects for 3rd parties pressured Nintendo to include one, so of course they cheaped out when they weren't thinking of using it at all, specially when the GBA was taking the role of a portable SNES >>716364884 I just compared them since I have both, they are indeed the same in size and shape, never played much in the og GBA since no backlit screen but the GameCube d-pad more often than not registers left or right inputs as up

I can't imagine using the shittiest controller of its generation for games not even from its generation.

Commonly told lie, it's not. You've never opened either device.
