I like it a lot. Redmane Castle couldโ€™ve been a better but I like the oppressive atmosphere. Also most bosses in the caves and other dungeons are duos here which is pretty neat I guess.

Its my favorite region in Elden Ring's main game. Like many others I took the trapped chest there to the mine. Exiting and seeing the blood red sky, roiling swamp and hearing the music was a top 10 gaming moment for me. Especially as a Berserk fan

The trap chest that brings you there is one of the best "holy fuck" moments in a first playthrough of Elden Ring. I pity anyone who didn't get to experience that blind, at level 7, while exploring the lake.

It only has 3 things of notice: Radahn, Medallion/Soreseal, and Millicent (people donโ€™t even know she can invade)

Relies too much on people on stumbling on it in a blind playthrough no one a second run+ is falling for that teleporter chest while all the good shit is in Dragonbarrow. Everyone already knows itโ€™s not the real poison swamp area. It just becomes part of the 40 minute prep every run does to gear up. You skip the Redmane duo boss because you stepped foot in Altus.

fun zone, its definitely the most depressing/oppressive because chances are you (and myself) went there at way too low of a level

>>716374315
definitely one of the most memorable moments in the game, i also loved finding the meterorite staff there because my friends told me about it after i said i was doing a pure INT build

kino atmosphere overall and millicent is best girl
only downside (just like the dlc): the radahn fight is a letdown (beat him both pre and post patch, i just hate gimmick fights)

As someone who likes to obsessively go around and collect every little goodie every playthrough, it's a bit annoying. You gotta do like three semicircles around the Swamp of Aeonia. Regardless, though, 10/10 area. No matter how you get there, it's designed to make you go oh fuck:
>if you just walk there from Limgrave, you get the big vista near the Shack of the Rotting and a big, scary bird in your face
>if you use the booby trapped chest, as soon as you walk out you're right next to the swamp and the giant, rot-spewing land squirts
>if you use the portal to Gurranq, you get another huge vista and little vulgar militia goofballs that will slap your shit in because Dragonbarrow is the second highest levelscaled area in the game

Sellia should have been much larger and more involved. It has a lot of hype to it, but the actual area is basically garbage.
The main route from Limgrave, down south to Fort Gael, then to Redmane Castle is good and is a well designed guantlet, but a lot of the other stuff feels disconnected.
Dragonbarrow definitely needed a better divider from the main area.

Honestly pretty scary at first. Everything up to this zone was fairly grounded in reality for the most part. You just had occasional large golems and trolls. Then in Caelid you suddenly have these massive mutated animals roaming everywhere and rotting corpses in the most hellish landscape with pussy blood pools everywhere. Like fuck dude. No other level in this game had a 'smell' that comes through the screen.

There are many things that try to get you to go to Caelid early. I'd be surprised if more people didn't end up there before getting to Liurnia of the Lakes.

It has some really good items to pick up if you go there early. Poison Ash of War, Fire Ash of War, Meteorite Staff, Rock Sling, Radagon's Soreseal, Half of the Medallion, Gut's Greatsword, etc.

Frame rate was obnoxious in the dlc playing on last gen. The vanilla game runs perfectly from start to the end and then the dlc sharts all over the floor right at the start in Belurat. Cross gen releases are painful for poorfags.

Stellar art direction but I wish I was rich. Motherfuckers got to enjoy this at 60 fps and I can only imagine how sweet it is to pan the camera over the big major area with incredible backdrops without dropping to 18 frames.

It's one of the worst looking areas of the game.
Fighting Radan while using the summons feels extremely easy, fighting him without them is a pain in the ass.

Loved it. The first time I stepped out of the crystal tunnel and beheld the ruined, twisted landscape outside was one of those memorable gaming moments that will remain in my memory for the rest of my life. It's when I realized ER wasn't just 'open-world Dark Souls', but rather a grand fusion of previously established Miyazakian themes and concepts, including the cosmic horror of Bloodborne. Caelid captures about 90% of the problems with modern dark souls and the people who like it are about half of that.

I wish they did more with the mutant creatures concept. Maybe ONE more enemy or a unique boss. The crows and dogs are cool but I wish there was more than just crows and dogs. I guess there's the giant land squirts but eh.

I love this one because it betrays the obvious truth, we are flipped upside down by Marika sending the Lands of Shadow (originally the center chunk of the world) to the "bottom" of the world

complete with the obvious twist that the ScaduTree is just the Roots of the Erdtree.

feels kind of unrealistic compared to limgrave and liurnia of the lakes. wandering through a forest or those swampy lakes feels right because they seem more like actual places.

caelid has too much stuff in it that's kind of awkwardly just plonked there, it's too gamey.

its fine, enemies aren't sentient so they can't bait out attacks so that they can get good attacks on you, a human.

you can, however do that, and its the crux of easily beating almost every encounter in the game, once you realize that all bosses (and almost all enemies) are just a series of "if then" attack chains and it doesn't even particularly matter what the next attack is, you just can know that based off distance between you and the enemy and your behavior it will do something that closest he gap, makes distance, or punishes aggression and you can punish all of these effortlessly yourself as well.

Crucible Knights are the ultimate teachers of this, if you just trade blows you will have a hard time, but when you realize you are basically dog walking him the whole fight they are easy as piss.

I've taken to using the first rotten tree spirit for some early runes. Firebone arrows from a shortbow make quick work, or if a faith build any ranged flame incantation will work for an easy cheesy 10k

idk maybe I'm just "good enough" to play through Caelid Normally instead of googling where to go and treating it like a shopping spree in Detroit.

Remember where I mentioned that the people who liked Caelid were about half of whats wrong with Dark Souls these days? Yeah this is what I mean. Imagine trying to design a game when half the playtesters are just infatuated with dogshit.

I deserve to be shit on for this but does this game have a lot of grinding options? Like if Iโ€™m getting fucked up in one area, I can go somewhere else and come back on easy mode, with better gear and lots of health? I want to explore the setting but I donโ€™t feel like bashing my head against certain challenges and doing run backs

Note, that levels are actually of secondary importance compared to weapon upgrades and item buffs.
If you find yourself running into a wall of difficulty, don't jump to getting levels but instead think about exploring for weapon upgrades first, then look into damage buffs or means to reduce incoming damage, and only in the last resort, go and grind mobs for levels.
