The first fatal frame had plenty of ones that were unsettling to look at without being absurd. I don't know why they pussied out so hard on the second one. There's only a handful I could see anyone older than 7 finding creepy.

Because apparently the first one was too scary. Granted, the first one's also a bit unbalanced with a hell of a second half difficulty spike, but in a way I think that makes it better. 2's a lot more polished and the presentation's on point but they definitely reeled back things from 1.

Probably. 1-3 were re-released on PS3 years ago, digitally. 4 and 5 were released on Steam. I don't think FF5 was very good. There was also some terrible 3DS game. The guy who made Fatal Frame, Shibata, also hasn't worked on a game since 2019. Its also a relatively niche series and I think that's mostly because of the archaic Japanese setting. Its a shame because I really like it. Still have my copy of FF2, bought the digital releases and even bought physically on Switch in hopes someone notices and pushes for another one or maybe just a remaster. I'm just worried it will be like the guy who directed the first Silent Hill, he went on to make Siren which was great but Slitterhead was fucking raw garbage and I refunded it
