I truly miss when the biggest "problem" the site had was people who voluntarily take ownership of their posts... now everything is just spam and bots and proxies.

I hated them back then too. They were only appropriate if someone had some pasta to share, just for the thread alone. There were so many online forums around, if you wanted to be a regular tripfag just join those and have a gay avatar with a gay anime signature banner.

Anons were only starting to outnumber tripfags by then. Before 2005 4chan was just an IRC circlejerk

Twenty years of outsiders and immigration will do that to any stable, homogenous community.

Literally nobody would have argued with you if you said 4chan was an anime website in 2005. On the contrary, they would have said "Okay? What a weird thing to say" before going to post in the Disgaea thread and posting tiny Etna tits because everyone agreed the Blue board/Red board distinction was silly.

Partly this. I think the downfall of /v/ as a good community happened with Jimmy posting. Literally, every single post at one point was just made to rustle someone's jimmies. It was far and away from Trolling, which was being done for the purposes of making mocking/joking jabs at someone. Jimmyposting was the earliest form of posting because you were a genuine idiot but wanted everyone else to feel bad about that.

It was also what prompted me to take a break from /v/ for a solid 2-3 years until it became passe. But after that was the dawn of wojak and frogposting that we haven't shed in over 13 years and counting.

In the twenty year span between 2005 to 2025 we have gone through global stages of both irony and post-irony
Sincerity is dead and you are simply not allowed to like anything any more

I still think the worst part is the hostility toward piracy.
/v/ used to be so full of downloads you could pick up tons of games off the /rs/ archive alone. Now you can't even post them.

>Twenty years of outsiders and immigration
Every time someone asks "Why is /v/ so different?" do we have to spell it out? There's 10x as many people here as there used to be and they're random riffraff that got linked here from social media.

If you were here in 2005, it's because you really put forth the effort to be here. There was no link to mash with your fat brown thumb on your phone. You were surfing the internet on a Windows XP PC and your interests in games or anime led you here eventually.

It's not only that but also that the IQ of the average internet user has gone down significantly like your pic already established.
I truly think there is no anon left who could calculate how much dick Recette has to take to pay her debt back (can't find that pic right now) and even if there is, the irony poisoning discourages high quality posting.
Put the high amount of 3rd world spammers with broken grammar and trolls on top, that kills every high quality thread and it's no wonder this site is getting worse.

Millennials were kids with a future back then and now they're crusty fossils pushing 40. It's not that deep and every reply to you thus far has been a cope from the brutal reality of the situation.
