I'm forced to play the Switch port of the HD version at work and holy hell does it run like fucking ass:
>opening and closing your inventory takes a full 1.5 seconds, at least, every time
>cutscenes lag and audio desyncs regularly
>loading screens are longer and more frequent than the PS2 port
>camera frequently yanks itself in a weird unprompted direction when I go to aim
At least it runs at 60fps sometimes I guess.

Because RE5 is the most corporate RE game to exist. Co-op games were in. Piss filter was in. Grit was in. Being a Military cinematic experience in locations like Africa or the Middle East was in.

Bought the (((remaster))). What am I in for if I have a 7 round clear professional save with the hand cannon unlocked? (I am very autistic).
I had half a mind to just keep getting stupid good at OG RE4 and try those mods which replace all enemy NPCs with bosses like verdugo, and uber salvador.
Because I am also an enjoyer- have some beta screen-shots I scrounged up a while back trying to look for reference pics.

It's okay. I don't like some changes that kind of bring it in line with what you'd expect of a modern tps. Leon feels sluggish, aiming kinda sucks.

Yeah I'm not going to lie- I saw the hammer enemy and was put off by it. You really had to mess with perfection? I guess I can only judge after a play-through myself though... I'm just really concerned that the changes will be too drastic.

I think leon being rooted into the ground while aiming would bother people. It seems kind of goofy now compared to the rest of the games but imo resi4 was perfect. Hd project is the way to go. I'm replaying it now.

i think it added to the tension of the game, when i got re4 i was just starting HS and had not played many "horror" games at that point, and i remember being pretty scared to play the game because it felt like i couldnt get away from the enemies. of course once you know what youre doing the game had a lot of mobility and you just wouldnt know it going in blind. Not being able to back away while shooting the chainsaw guy for example scared me a lot. it kind of makes sense though leon wouldnt be moving while shooting since you would just miss a lot and waste ammo.

i prefered RE5. it improved everything mechanically from 4 and the level design is still rock solid (outside of the last 2 chapters). shame about the forced co-op

i may give resident evil 5 another chance but i frankly disliked just about everything about it in my half playthrough of the game. i really wanted to like it because RE4 is one of my top 10 games of all time. some of the complaints are large and some are small but they add up. probably the most minuscule complaint to some people is i think they really fucked up the atmosphere and the aesthetic of the game. without that resident evil isnt resident evil. older resident evil games had a certain look to them and a visual style that made them recognizeable and re5 looks really generic and ugly to me and i didnt find the levels fun or interesting to progress through and most of the enemies just look retarded.

my memory of resident evil 5 is everything looking "deep fried" if that makes sense where everything is like yellow and bright and gritty and dirty looking with harsh sunlight everywhere. i prefered the softer look re4 had with greys and blue with softer lighting where some things had a glow to them. lots of resident evil 4 areas looked kind of relaxing despite what was going on. re5 looks like it has one foot in the silent hill movie or something.

yea the atmosphere and aesthetic is a downgrade. in fairness i also levy the same complain to RE4. it's not an RE game. i look at RE4 as something new and RE5 as an extension towards that.

honestly what you think of RE5 will depend entirely on what you liked about RE4. if you liked the cheesy tone, the atmosphere, the dialog, outside of wesker you don't get any of that in RE5. if you liked RE4 for the beat em up inspired gameplay, RE5 improves that side of it so much, to the point where anything else that is worse about RE5 compared to 4 is forgivable, ground attacks, more melees, instant kills, menu reloading during animations. it's all really sick. and it has the BEST mercs ever created. to the point where the mercs mode alone is something i'd rate higher than any other RE product.

i think resident evil 4 still has a lot of the tone of the older resident evil games just in the general aesthetic and atmosphere of the game which is what i like about it. I played resident evil outbreak file 2 a few years back and its the same thing where there are areas that seem like they would be in re 4 or vice versa. and everything is lit in an aesthetically pleasing stylish way. re4 feels closer to that game imo than it does to re5 in terms of atmosphere and tone. i realize im repeating myself a lot but its a big deal to me. there are a lot of "horror" games, or thirds person survival games or whatever you want to call them. but one of the things that separates them is the ambience and atmosphere of the experience and world youre exploring. re5 to me felt like it was inspired by gears of war or something. re4 also feels closer to re1 remake IMO than it does to re5 also not sure if other people would agree with me but again im talking about tone and atmosphere of the game. i can forgive a lot as long as they nail that and they fucked it up.

yea that's fair. if your priority is atmosphere and horror then yea RE4 will be much higher than RE5. but in that regard i can't see RE4 scoring very highly compared to games that focus in on that atmosphere, in terms of pure gameplay, RE5's additions were FANTASTIC. if you look at the action trilogy of RE as a horror game then yea RE5 kinda blows, if you look at it as a final fight inspired beat em up, RE5 perfected that gameplay loop... honestly if they committed more to it in a way similar to dino crisis 2 it would arguably be one of my favourite games of all time.

i just find it more interesting as a topic that the same group who made re4 made re5 directly after and it basically shared almost nothing in common with the previous game which was a smash hit. i never liked the ganado (sp?) concept and just preferred unthinking zombies. but they made it work somehow in re4. then in re5 they double down on it and make the zombies even more human like where they are chasing you in jeeps and shit in africa of all places. i cant even remember if it was yet another new form of zombie but it just was jumping the shark too much. i felt like they should continue with the las plagos storyline since they already moved away from the standard zombies the should commit to it and develop it further.

They even changed the legendary attache case item screen. its like they just went out of their way to make it as different as possible which always struck me as weird because they already gambled once going from re3 to re4 so to do it again for re5 instead of just preserving some stuff from re4 has always been bizarre to me. it feel like its made by a totally different group fo people and it feels like its made FOR a different group of people.

sorry im just bitching and complaining im tired. wish i was a fly on the wall in their meetings planning out re5 just to understand the thought process.

What do you think about the remake? A top 10 game for me.
