They do this either to get you to buy the new shit, or to get you to stop comparing classics to whatever shit they're putting out these days.
Nintendo in particular has been absolutely shitter-shattered over people playing retro games, but it applies to a bunch of companies.
It's why half the news reports about people rewatching older movies or interviewing someone that only plays retro games ends up sounding a bit like they're framing them as a weirdo, an outcast, an outlier.
This kinda ends up expanding to the point where the normalfags start thinking the same thing, like, they get confused when you mention you like the old Lilo & Stitch movie over the new one, or that you like the original trilogy of Star Wars over the new trilogy.
Now, streaming services and subscriptions are king, so companies are even more incentivized to get people to stop enjoying old shit, and that kinda shows.
