tony iommi IS black sabbath, but it's undeniable that their popularity dropped with more talented vocalists like dio and tony martin. ozzy's got one of those voices that just "fits" the sound despite not being as technically impressive as his contemporaries (the bob dylan/neil young effect). ozzy and iommi even sued each other like 20 years ago over the issue of revenue shares because ozzy felt that black sabbath was tied so closely to his own image and iommi was still profiting off it (or some shit, it's been a long time).
