The removal of tix ruined everything. Even with all the issues that already existed before it, things truly went to shit when they got rid of tix. Alternatively, I'd nominate DevEx. Making places on Roblox should never have been made profitable.
The introduction of DevEx (incentivizing the creation of places for profit and not for fun) into the removal of tix (and thus the removal of being able to passively make anything out of a place, further incentivizing cashgrabs and minimizing soul) fucked everything.

Fuck, I forgot about that. Looking back, it's like Roblox actually sold its soul to the Devil when making it. Doesn't help that they added features like premium payouts, so it's now not just customary for games to have AFK farms to artificially boost engagement, but there are also separate AFK farms for Premium players so they can extract even more Robux from premium payouts.
What a genuinely awful company. I always dreamed of joining it as a kid and maybe changing it for the better, but now I see that it's genuinely unsalvageable.

And yeah, classic roblox games were barebones but it gave it a charm. Like playing some made up game with action figures in your backyard. The fact that the games were made by 12-year olds like yourself, who wanted to make something fun (and not 20-something condo lurkers trying to make a pay packet off scamming brazillians) was the big part.

I feel like there's too big of a skill gap in the userbase when it comes to making games (which once upon a time was the focus of the site)
ROBLOX Studio probably has one of the best UIs of any program I've used, apparently people bitched about it when it came out in 2012 but the ribbon interface is very intuitive when you compare to most 3d environment programs which are dogshit and change between versions. Only problem is shit like modeling and stuff is locked behind said dogshit programs. If you can figure out how to use those obtuse UIs you have a big advantage over the rest of the community visually; most, if not all, of the big games now use imported usermeshes made in Blender. If Studio had the same features with the same intuitive design philosophy the rest of Studio has, or something like what Dreams has, it'd close that gap a little. Course ROBLOX and most of the userbase don't give a shit about making games anymore so I guess it doesn't matter

I played roblox non-stop from 2013 to 2020. Eventually I had an epiphany that every game on the websits was just a shittier version of something I could play on steam. The only reason to play roblox was if you were a dumb kid who couldn't convince your parents to buy you real games.

The main thing is honestly not even a fault of Roblox themselves. Game creators started focusing way too much on ripping off already existing games and IP instead of doing their own thing. Roblox was at its peak in 2011-2014 when people got good enough at the engine and tools that big and competent games could be made but the restrictions you did have still forced people to be creative and do games that worked for Roblox. The Mad Murderer, Giant Survival, Pwned:InCrypt.

As the years passed the engine got "better" but most games that were actually worthwhile to click on turned to just worse versions of the original things they were based on. There's some wortwhile stuff left like Remix (please play Remix its amazing) but the rest of it is meh.
