It’s the third game in the Ai the Somnium Files series: no Sleep for Kaname Date. The first two are murder mystery games about using a machine that can go into the dreams of people to explore their dreams in order to get evidence out of suspects. But you’ve gotta enter their subconscious mind piece by piece by exploring weird dream worlds and figuring out what the logic and rules of each dream are. On top of that, the third entry has added escape room gameplay where you play as bunny girl Iris, who is an important character in the previous games.

I really like Ai1 some of his best work, waaay better than ZTD. Ai2 gets a lot more schizo and elaborate (multiple protagonists, a way larger timeline for the story’s events, out there plot twists) but a lot of people didn’t like it all that much by comparison to the first game. No Sleep for Kaname Date isn’t a numbered entry and Uchikoshi isn’t as directly involved, so from reviews it’s a but less serious and ambitious story wise but still a really fun time if you liked the previous games, especially with the new escape rooms.

It added escape room gameplay, yeah. There still are Somnium dream puzzles as well, but there are some really fun, meaty puzzle rooms too that follow more sensible logic and don’t impose the six minute time limit.

I mean, I liked the first two well enough, but the story "twists" were a big part of it. Kind of disappointing to hear that this one is basically a spin-off... I certainly wouldn't have considered AI worthy of having spin-offs and side stories.
