some anon posted about Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in another thread

>>716396197

which reminded me about the Prisoner of Askaban game which included
-> Fully functional free-roam 3d flight with buckbeak
-> playable Harry, Ron and Hermione with dedicated spells for each
-> potion brewing
-> ost made by Jeremy Soule
-> dungeons with bosses
-> infiltration with bosses.

Another even better example would be Return of the King with enormous replayability, fidelity to the movie, and high quality.

Post games that were, although no masterpieces, way better than they should have been given the context.

the first 3 hp games are funny bc of how wildly they differed from console to pc, basically completely different games

Not just that, even GBC and GBA are totally different games as well. Really enjoyable RPGs too, even if a bit too easy. I might've played through Prisoner of Azkaban a dozen times back on GBA back then

Even between the PS1 and PS2 they were massively different. Just how things were back then since the differences between target hardware was so vast.

I dont care so much for the bosses as much as the dungeon design. Its too rare for a game to have good dungeon design. Thank you for the video though, time to go digging

They didn't half-ass it either, you had to force open the cauldron with harry and ron and then switch to hermione to use her Glacius spell. Another one was an spinning armor that where you would use carpe retractum (accio) which only harry could use

i remember the GC version of azkaban being a bizarrely high effort game for just being a movie tie in slop
mainly the

part

I wouldn't call that shovelware. Licensed games have a poor reputation but that doesn't mean all of them were just mindless cash grabs.

Star Wars Revenge of the Sith game was better than it had any right to be.
Generally a lot of franchises in the early to mid 2000s had great tie-ins, especially animation. Shrek, Madagascar, Ice Age come to mind.

Same, I thought it was neat that it had branching paths and new game+.
I remember leveling up to the point where I could kill the werewolf boss with just regular spells.

I vaguely remember the PC version but the Bucky parts were more 'follow the rings on rail' style. Like the highway levels in Spyro

yeah, i grew up with the pc games and the ps1 versions of 1 & 2 and i'm fully intending to check out the ps2 versions at some point because they seem so different. the goblet of fire game is still the biggest game disappointment i've ever had.
