Why do CRPG's still use this dumb old system where you have to rest to recharge abilities? It's quite frankly retarded and boring as fuck. Use some kind of resource that recharges during combat or a certain amount of uses per encounter. Also pre-buffing is absolute cancer.

I know where it comes from but it's so obviously bad. You can just rest after every battle but it feels absolute ridiculous and immersion breaking, but if you don't you're gimping yourself especially if you play a caster. It gives the player a bunch of unrewarding choices. Do I want to maximize my power and re-buff constantly? Or do I want to try and eke my way through by being weaker but skipping the tedious shit? Great design.

It has nothing to do with adhd. There's literally nothing interesting about the system. It's unimmersive, uninteresting and boring. If you want combat with restricted amount of spellcasts then restrict them per combat encounter. No need for resting and wasting my time and immersion.

The difference between tactical and strategic thinking. With this system, whether or not you use an ability becomes a weighty decision that can have longer-term ramifications. What you suggest takes that away and makes using an ability much more of a no-brainer.

Resource management is a great gameplay system. It's so great that there are entire genres built around it.
Go play dumbed down AAA garbage instead of turning niche games into AAA garbage, you cancerous cancer cancer.

You can rest after every combat if you want to anyway?

That's more of a result of devs not really thinking about why this mechanic is in place, so they invalidate it by allowing you to rest just about anywhere with no downsides. These games become much more tense when you don't take advantage of that, in my experience.

There are games where resting is limited.

>This room just has 3 kobolds I might as well just autoattack

>This room has 3 kobolds but 2 beholders join the battle from the fog of war so I better use all my buffs here

This is essentially what it comes down to when you play the game. Knowing what is coming up so you can skip resting and rebuffing as much as possible since it's not fun so you want to do it as rarely as possible.

Playing a wizard is about not using your spells as often as possible.

So, that you can compete at minimum day, hour, minute result at finishing it.

Yes, if I have an Aid spell, a blur spell and one of my fighters has 4 HP left and my mage has 7 HP, so both can get lucky and take a single hit with minor damage roll, I will reload that encounter with eight enemies 217 times, so I have used all my non-item resources and can sleep after the next encounter turns out to be impossible. I play only perfect games.

>CRPGs
No, just a few DnD clones do that. Arcanum, Fallout, Divinity (old ones), don't do this.
