you technically can pull this off with a voxel engine and a smaller resolution, you just render the further parts into a single texture, although I've seen plenty of very fast voxel engines pumping millions of voxels. it's not like this artstyle would require full voxel physics to make it impossible.

Because consistently getting that sense of scale means you get bored within 10 minutes because that castle is a 1 hour walk away.
Because capturing a sense of scale means you have to constantly keep the player's view narrowed or they go "WAO THIS HUGE FIELD IS EMPTY I'M FUCKING BORED!" See: discussion around Elden Ring
Because as soon as you enter that village and either A) half the houses can't be entered and the NPCs just say the same thing over and over or B). You CAN enter all the houses but there aren't that many of them and the NPCs are even less reactive then the illusion is immediately shattered.

I swear to god all of these fucking threads are basically just "why doesn't someone invest infinity dollars into a game that we'll still complain about? See the graphics aren't that intense, must be easy!"

I would kill for a game in this kind of perspective. I love mountainous regions, rolling hills, and thick forests. I don't care if it's unrealistic I want to be immersed in the same perspective as the slop. Bonus points of I can play as an barbarian in a hero/villain role a la Fable or just a low level adventurer or citizen.
