I'm pretty sure the long sword is the best weapon in Dark Souls 3 in terms of DPS and you start with it if you play knight.

It’s way better than the Black Knight Ultra Greatsword too, and that’s the rarest one.

Not meant to be starting, but mid-game. They weren't thinking of min-maxers, or speed runners. They thought you would duck into the graveyard, face opposition, then run away and go to the burg. And even when you went there you would have stats far too low to wield it.

You are meant to go there after the Capra Demon. Which is 25% through. They thought you'd wield it 60% through the game.

They were NOT thinking of someone going "what if I dump all my souls into the minimum stats to wield it right away?"

They literally thought you were gonna dump like 20 levels on Resistance. That's why "builds" are like 10-20 points more efficient than what the devs thought you'd have.

I am currently playing through 1.0 on RPCS3 and decided to use the bastard sword, because no one else ever used it due to claymore existing.
Did you know it has unique R1-R2 combos? Like your R2 will look different and be faster after R1, character also does a little spin

I easily beat dark soul and never used that. the bigger the weapon the bigger the risk if your timing isn't correct.

I’ve never finished the game with this thing. On my no-death attempts I just replaced it with the Black Knight Sword if I got that cause it’s better unless you make Zwei Chaos.

Because it's good to have access to the most fun weapon early on. So that you can actually play with it through the whole game. If it was at the end, once you've already invested into upgrading some other weapon, it would be pointless. Unless you wanted it for a NG+ run. But that's a lot of investment just to play with a specific build.

The main character in each one of the games is juiced up on soul/rune shaped steroids without any formal weapon training. The weapon arts, spells, even the basic movesets are the work of others, you're just some bum that found a thing(some edge cases where you help them in the final stage of their research)

I like this but when it's hidden so well you'd only know it through NG+.

Stonekeep has the absolute best weapon in the game, an extremely fast dagger that hits for obscene damage, hidden in a wall at the very beginning of the game, but you need to press a hidden switch you'd never know existed the first time around.

It's more that you need to attack aggressively to build up bleed, otherwise it goes down. And you can only get a hit on Ornstein when you punish his attack or his AI bugs out for a sec, and then he's back to jumping around and you not being able to hit him, rendering your bleed useless. And the bandit knife does fuck all base damage to him. It's one of those situations where it's better to go for Smough, because you have a few more opportunities to hit him multiple times in a quick succession, so you can build up bleed, but unreliably. However, the bandit knife does a more reasonable base damage to him even if you don't manage to build up bleed.

ehh I feel like they lucked in on a good formula and just kept going with little understanding of what made it good. Sure maybe one or two guys "gets" it but every game feels like they're just trying random shit and winging it, often making baffling decisions that anyone playing the game once would point out but somehow they never catch these issues. Hell half the time they patch something they break something else even worse and take months to fix it, if ever. Current ER still has a bunch of PvE effects uing PvP values, which they brok and fixed like 3 times before. It just keeps happening.
