I've never seen this screen in my life and I've had a PS2 since 2001.

You were born when it was released. By the time you were 6, the PS3 was already out.

I know, my point was that depending on outside factors like whether you had older siblings or not even if your generation's console was the PS3 you could've very well grown up with the PS2. I played SNES and classic Tomb Raider on PC on my parents side and PS2 on my older brother's side. Friend of mine grew up with Diablo 2 thanks to his uncle. That kinda thing used to happen moreso than now, where younger zoomers have seen Fortnite and Among Us for like 8 years straight and even if they had an older sibling they might've played what, The Last of Us on PS3? Console generations haven't changed as much as they used to

Easily fixed by opening the ps2 and cleaning the disc reading lens

Happens to me occasionally, the way I've circumvented it thus far is by unplugging the console for a few minutes and then plugging it back in. I think i need to reapply the thermal paste on the consoles CPU or something.
>>716448151
If it's what i suspect it is, it might be due to how i actually need clean the console out for dust to make it less hot as well. I think its console overheating.

I'm talking about my slim model here.

Here in this region everybody had a PS2 and you had the choice of buying full-price games or pirated ones worth $3 per CD. The latter was the most popular option obviously, but some disks were not pirated/burned properly and you'd have the red screen show up often.

Yeah as a child it was scary because you wouldn't know the implications of a failed disk, and your imagination would spook you into thinking "what if this screen happens in the middle of the game?", or "what if a particularly bad disk bricks the console?"

Old consoles were weird pieces of plastic shit. Sometimes you had to insert a cartridge/disc like 10 times to get it to work.
