>There is no one on nexusmods even bothering with this shit. The modders simply gave up
i predicted this on /v/ a day after this game launched and people shat on me for it. i am tired of always being right about shit like this

>What went so wrong
1. the game underneath is soulless and no mod can fix this
2. the setting does not lend itself to adding fun through mods. Skyrim for example is exactly that kind of corny fantasy world lets you literally create ANYTHING within it. swords, hot or buff babes, viking LARPing, Dark Souls LARPing, necromancy, a living breathing natural overworld, all kinds of magic and fantasy shit.

on the other hand Starfield is sterile, everyone is locked in suits, there's no sword and sorcery aspect, the environments are all locked away separated and have nothing memorable, etc. as a playground for possible ideas it's just completely barren and restrictive so that's why modders don't want to bother with it.

The Engine severely limited what they could do technically. Its because of the Engine they couldn't do seamless take offs and landings and they had to have 3 loading screens to go anywhere. Its because of the Engine every city feels like a small village, because they have to have 20 bajillion placeable physics objects so anything beyond that would destroy most PCs.

etc etc etc. At least half of whats wrong with Starfield can be placed at the feet of insisting on using an engine that could not handle what they wanted to make.
The other half is direction.

Bethesda are incompetent. Part of their incompetence is not updating Creation. Starfield has the same tired bugs that were in Morrowind.

its so funny to me they don't understand that is the charm of elder scrolls and yet rpgs still try to push this BIG CITY LOAD OF NPCS bullshit. Avowed is a great example of this. When you go to whiterun you know every npc by name and they may only say a few things time to time but it feel lived in and homey. Skyrim is the last soulful rpg we will ever get and its sad.

It's a thought terminating cliche. It's a tool that people use to avoid thinking about things that make them uncomfortable. Instead of confronting how the storytelling has become worse and worse and will only get worse with every installment or how utterly safe everything in the setting is and how there's no indication that Bethesda recognises this as a problem or how every installment takes longer to build and has less and less content they just say "yep it's the engine" and change the subject. Bethesda is over and deep down they know and they know it'll hurt to acknowledge it so they have to protect themselves from thinking about it.

The problem is, letting you travel smoothly between planets won't help. Because space is empty, that's like its defining thing. It's not like skyrim, there is nothing to see, the travel is purely a waste of time.
It might work if they shrunk space way down and put lots of nebulas and debris and weird hazards to create a sense of terrain, but real space is boring and pointless so timeskipping past it is the only sane option. A lot of the game's flaws are just inherent to the genre. If they went all in and made it simulationist with time acceleration or some Elite-type shit it would've been more honest but probably an even bigger flop, Bethesda's players don't want to stare at a distance counter slowly going down for 10 minutes like in E:D

false. They could have had a terminal outside the ship that you accessed to have you teleported outside the ship on another planet if you wanted. or teleported to flying it in space. the extra loading screens are only necessary for hardcore RP which are not necessary. the design choice to make it less loading screens could have been made.

>Muh creation engine can't handle cars. The terrain can't load fast enough and you'll fall through the world
This didn't even make sense before they added a vehicle. You can use mods and console commands to accelerate to ridiculous speeds and the engine can keep up. On top of that New Vegas has a car mod so this was bullshit, even a decade ago
>Muh creation engine can't handle seamless transitioning
Except that fallout 4 already had seamless transitions with elevators

Starfield sucks because it's badly designed. The engine is probably the best part of Starfield. The only reason the engine seems bad is because Bethesda is retarded and keeps designing their games around the engines weaknesses and not it's strength.

>Oblivion is the definition of high fantasy

>Low fantasy is a subgenre of fantasy where magical or supernatural elements intrude upon an otherwise normal world
this almost describes oblivion. you have a world that looks like earth with earth animals all over the place. The oblivion gates intrude on the world. Other than the oblivion gates what is high fantasy? the races, already established in other games, the books, most were written for other games, the skybox? The high fantasy part of oblivion mostly comes down to the legacy of the IP. When bethesda makes a new IP they make starfield, a hard scifi game with a fantasy NG+. People have said for years that bethesda makes the new elder scrolls games less alien because they want it to sell more and they dont think people will buy werid games. why would they make a nasa punk hard scifi game then? almost no one likes hard scifi. the reason they make that is because they like that sort of safe and unimaginative stuff themselves.

>Nope. You are actually sitting in the cockpit. You can hear your crew in your ship and when you place stuff on your consoles you can see them while flying in first person.
The ship's interior is a small cell you load into. Everything outside of the ship is completely fake. Other ships and asteroids don't move relative to a planet's orbit, they spawn and move relative to the player ship. That's why it was big news when BGS fixed the bug that made asteroids blatantly follow the ship, they broke the illusion.
>You can use mods and console commands to accelerate to ridiculous speeds and the engine can keep up.
The graphic rendering part of it. The script engine completely shits the bed and ruins save files down the line. Speed was capped since Oblivion because of the way loading and unloading cells is handled. When entering a cell, all scripted references in this and adjacent cells are queued up for updating. The cells you leave behind queue up the safe suspension of their scripts. Changing overland cells too fast builds a massive stack that might take several minutes to get resolved, provided nothing gets stuck along the way.
>Except that fallout 4 already had seamless transitions with elevators
It's a load screen hidden behind the elevator animation. When the game is installed on a hard drive, it always freezes for just under a second at the end of elevator ride - that's the cell transition.
