I follow a channel whose whole gimmick is to buy and try very old games in old PCs to see if they still work.
They literally had to stop trying out cds because they all worked fine and it was boring So he just tries out disquetes now.
I recently bought an used copy of 2004's Fate Stay Night and the three disks are in perfect condition and work fine
I have pirated PS2 games that still work fine to this day even though they're completely scratched because I treated them like shit back when I was a kid
Disk rot is an absolute meme

The Suffering is usually about $20 cheaper on Xbox. I'm usually able to find an "actual reason" why games have the prices they have. The remaster is shit, another version rans like doo doo, etc.

But games with the best version being on Xbox being so cheap always puzzles me. They should be the ones sought out and more expensive? Aside from Outrun 2006 (good lord) this is never the case.

It is a thing but it's a lot more rare than some people let on. The only disc based system I own that my discs have rotted on is OG Xbox for whatever reason. For CDs, those things are pretty robust. The only discs I've ever had rot on me were a few MCA and Polydor CDs from the late 80's/early 90's and the BMG direct/promo discs, and some Rhino discs from the late 00's. I haven't noticed any rot on my Playstation, PS2 or 360 games. Most of it had to do with how the discs were manufactured.

Depends on the disc, disc quality, and type. Laserdiscs are starting to fall apart, but CDs from that era are mostly fine. Burned CDs are lower quality and many from the 00s are falling apart as well. Some gamecube games are rotting.

So eventually 100% of optical discs will rot away since they're just plastic discs, but it depends. You still have decades more time with them.
