Nirvana Initiative has the Uchikoshi writing disease of lying to the player for absolutely no reason other than having a le epic twist near the end.
The entire game is structured in a way to mislead the player for no in-universe reason whatsoever and the "twist" in question is something every character is perfectly aware of throughout the entire game, when it's revealed it's literally just a deus ex machina 4th wall breaking motherfucker plopping in, having a giggle at how stupid you are, only to fuck off again. The reveal has zero repercussions on any of the characters since they have known about it the entire time.
It's unironically a lot worse than ZTD's offscreen bullshit.

You know how in ZTD there's the twist that only one group was ever awake at a time and they are all in the same rooms? Their clocks are set to make them think they are all awake simultaneously acting in different parts of the facility.
What NI does is something similar to that but the characters have known all along and only the player itself was being mislead by the game's structure for no reason at all.
