The current implementation admits it does not live up to the technical requirements as stated and does not use so-called zero-knowledge proof.
The solution allows for reidentification and this has been papered over by requesting 30 tokens at a time, storing those on-device and handing them out to services that require age attestation in randomized order.

First of all, there have already been attacks proposed on this that illustrate when a few token-receiving parties are in cahoots it STILL trivially allows reidentification. So in effect, this already means the current implementation does not adher to the EU's own requirements under the Commission's stated guidelines for age verification techniques to be privacy-preserving. And thus the EU is actually advocating that it's own proposed solution should not be used.
(Yes; nice and ironic, right?)

Secondly, this entire technique is only so safe as the tokens stored on the local device cannot be tampered with. Which means currently the app requires device-attestation features from Google and Apple to ensure the smart phone is in its locked down state and is not rooted. I.e. you cannot use this with any custom roms. Which also means you cannot use community roms with longer support and are required to remain on stock, VULNERABLE, firmware or get a new phone.
Which means the app as-is, is ALSO incompatible with the EU's own right-to-repair legislative efforts.
