VR is literally the only generational leap in in video game technology since the early 2010s, so why does /v/ hate it?

Outside of that all we've gotten have been tiny marginal improvements lighting(ray tracing) and anti aliasing(TAA, DLSS) both of which come with huge performance costs.

VR hardware is moving as such a pace it's crazy. We've got headsets with 4k screen PER EYE. It's fucking nuts.
Meta revealed a prototype HMD with 180 horizontal fov and 120 vertical. They claim it's almost rivaling human vision and doesn't feel like ski goggles anymore.
Hand tracking is nutty and I hope there will be a day where I can use my real life racing wheel or joystick and hand tracking in the same game and play in a big ass fucking mecha switching from RL sticks to hand tracking and flipping switches.

I think you don't know the first thing about TAA or DLSS, considering you're speaking utter nonsense like this.

We've had headsets with 4K screens per eye like 6 years ago.
Meta's R&D lab also showed off varifocal 6 years ago and hasn't shipped a product with that feature. So we won't get anything with that FOV for 6+ years, if ever.
Hand-tracking has nothing to do with hardware, it's been entirely a software solution.
VR hardware is stagnating hard.

Every game is either a FPS with gimmicky reloads and repetitive wall climbing sections or a rhythm game. It's boring after a month, and the 3D effect starts wearing off around the same time after your brain gets used to it.

My main problem is that it takes like 20 minutes to set up (cables/virtual desktop, moving furniture, charging headset etc etc) and I have to take breaks every hour or so
I just want to sit down and play

Quest 3 is the first one where the quality of the headset and price outweighs the downsides associated with it.

Even then to get the most out of it, you need a nice gaming Desktop PC which is a decent chunk of change, and have to be determined enough to go through the break-in process of removing motion sickness from your body.

Not many people are willing to fight physical ailments to have fun playing video games.

Play Bugsnax in VR though......its peak..... it has a built in developer made VR mod for it than can be enabled with simple steam setting.

I recently grabbed a Pico 4
For VR porn I noticed that VaM looks to be pretty fucking janky and I think I'd rather just buy a blow up doll
3D porn videos made me have to buy an expensive fucking player not to get stupid dizzy because the default shit doesn't have a separate IPD setting
I have to position the headset in such a way that it fucks my nose bridge, or the lower half of the lens will look really blurry (and the top strap is absolute garbage)
I'm using ALVR because I refuse to pay for something that may not work at all on linux (VD) and Pico Connect has some nasty spyware
So far I'm mixed on this shit, clearly headsets need 16K OLED and eyetracking, I guess that's why they're still so pricey but people aren't gonna pick those up, which makes it more of a niche
