Kid's games used to actually be hard as nails

When I was a kid I thought games like Crash 3 and Megaman X4 were hard. Granted, I learned a lot about video games by playing those 2 so whatever.

for me the side camera sections were always the hardest

There's a vague line between respecting kids' intelligence and making games accessible for them. Crash 1 is one of my favorite games now, but it was too hard as a kid, and I would have lost interest in it if I couldn't use passwords to see the later levels.

Kid's games should be enjoyed by kids.

When I was growing up most kids only had a handful of games that they played the everliving fuck out of.
Now we're oversaturated with media, and they're designed to be as easy to play as possible so people stick with them instead of immediately jumping to something else.

I’ve never done the box shit in crash games I just want to beat the levels and that’s that.

The save system really killed Crash 1 for me, unironically what the fuck were they thinking? The only worse save system I can think of is Tomb Raider 3 and that's because the game is extremely stingy and puts save crystals in paths with cheap traps.
