Caring about movement in videogames is cringe and I'm tired of pretending it's not

Sorry, but I don't blow my hard earned cash to stupid pixels in a video game because I am an intelligent man. So while you're playing with your useless pixels, I will be busy growing my business, getting rich and getting laid. And looks like one of my clients is calling me as I'm writing this post. So yeah, cya later sucker.

i don't think the problem is the movement itself, it's that people obsess over it like it's a requirement for a game to be good, sometimes a game should have shitty fucking movement and sometimes it should have very fluid and controllable movement. but people think if a game has shitty movement by design then it's automatically a bad game, kinda like how people also obsess over parry mechanics being in games or not because it lets you """"""skillfully""""" avoid damage (when the parry windows nowadays are like gorillion frames)

yeah, but i never said that wasn't the case. things can be executed poorly. i think a good example of "clunky" movement is monster hunter, for a lot of people it takes awhile to get used to having to commit to a lot of animation and start planning your movement proactively instead of re-actively, but it meshes well with that the games are trying to achieve with it's combat.

I don't have any webms and without knowing the server settings it's difficult to show, but even then, the turning speed seems wrong, the transitions between left and right strafes aren't smooth, the strafes themselves have too much variation in speed, and the sync between key presses and mouse movement seems off (specially after the third bhop).

You could argue that he's not trying to build speed, but the choppiness in the strafes is too much. Assuming it's default bhop settings, they should be much smoother like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vac0W8hEg4c

anyone pretending 1.6 movement was good should be killed irl, literally impossible to enjoy any pub or dm server as everyone is just abusing scrolling and bunnyhopping to make the shitty 1.6 hitboxes impossible to hit. csgo was peak, cs2 is a bit clunkier but eh nothing too bad

The obsessions with movement tech is killing these games. Not everything needs to be a twitch reflex ADHD clusterfuck of sliding, wall running, strafe hopping, and movement cancelling so every 1 on 1 fight ends up with two people flailing around like they're having seizures from a John Woo fever dream and controller/keyboard inputs that feel more fitting in a Korean RTS APM-fest

How do you make a skillful FPS without giving the player a varied moveset? Otherwise it boils down to:
>Yess my random spray pattern hit him three times and his only hit me once I'm the best!
With a very low skill ceiling that consists of:
>Can you put a mouse cursor on something and then click

I'm not that anon but one thing you can do is remove as much randomness as you can and increase the time to kill. The higher the time to kill the higher the chance the more skilled player takes over throughout the fight.

I'm not saying games need to be built for geriatrics but the more movement based a game is the higher the skill floor gets.
You have about 2 weeks of equal footing while everyone learns how to play the game then the wheat separates itself from the chaff and takes over the game and new players are practically barred from starting.
