Honestly I saw Undertale as less a mockery of JRPGs and more a result of the 00s fandom surrounding EarthBound. It always reminded me of something someone on the Starmen.net forum would have made if asked for their ideal RPG. Did Toby Fox ever say he went on there? I'm a complete outsider to all of the dev lore.
