I got one to hack and play Wii fit / Wii sports with the kids.

don't bother with that, there's no gpu acceleration and it's slow as balls.

does anyone have like a good guide to improve the joycons on pc for wii emulation? I have been trying to replay mario galaxy with the joycons with bluetooth and it can really be inaccurate at times

The better question is, why would someone buy a Wii instead of Wii U?
Wii U literally has built in Wii and you can apply Wii hacks like Homebrew Channel and Nintendont, so you can play Gamecube games too

Wii U has some nice extras aside from playing its game library, like DS emulation. You can add more DS games thanks to Wii U Virtual Console Injector.

I hacked my Wii U earlier this year and its been awesome. The only caveat that I'm sure someone else will bring up is that wii/gcn output is a little washed out. It doesn't bother me though. The convenience of HDMI is worth it in my case as I don't own any CRTs. Its a really nice way to play Chrono Trigger DS

The WiiU loading is really slow and requires the gamepad to boot up and I fucking hate the gamepad. It's bulky and requires a second plug. Also WiiU is not as sleek looking as the Wii. It's fatter, greasier, and a dust magnet because it uses the worst plastic on the planet. There's really nothing exclusive that isn't already on the Switch. And if I wanted to play DS games I can just buy a DS lite for like $30 on ebay.

Definitely depends on the person. For me, it's a big enough reason to keep my Wii + CRT setup with component cables.
