You don't even know the half of it.
The west just adopts Japanese words for Chinese things and now you have shiitake mushrooms and ramen in modern parlance.

Gyoza is the one that annoys the fuck out of me, it's not even a slightly changed dish from jiaozi it's literally the exact same but the jap name is used instead for some reason.

Chef here, savoury and umami actually mean different things, savoury that describes pretty much anything non sweet and is more of a broader umbrella term, umami refers to something more specific.

I like how you described umami as something specific in the most vague way possible.

And Wakoku has massive holes in their vocabulary that they borrow from the west. The most infamous example being that they don't have a word for the concept of "Love", so they just stole it and stereotypically pronounced it badly to where Love -> Rabu is the result.

Jap is pretty ready to pronounce, as most letters are pronounced like in Latin.
Unlike Chinese, that language is fucking shit, Impossible to read for everybody and sounds awful.

Those are two different words. One is a noun describing the palette sensation of fat and the other is an adjective describing a spiced/salty taste. Quite literally all you needed to do was type the words into google.

it's homosexual, like calling kiev kyiv
if we're gonna start calling things by the exact name in the language of the country that "invented" it then we're all fucked
and until we do that, i'm not calling savoury tastes as fucking umami
and if another person calls marmite an umami flavour i'm going to lose my fucking mind

I think it's quite telling of their societies, while the rest of the world self critique their own environment, japanese society enhances everything they do no matter how mundane it is while keeping any negative talk to themselves, you can see that in anime.

bullshit
when the first brit made a savoury pie and didn't even know japanese was a country, they called it a savoury pie
the first person to try lea and perrins or marmite didn't go "ooh, that's umami!" and they never marketed that shit as an additive to stock, soup, stews or sauces by telling you it would give you an umami hit
it was "rich" or "well bodied" or "savoury" or "meaty" etc etc
fuck off
