This games bosses filtered me so bad. I've had to godmode cheat through South General, Fang Ling's 2nd phase, Huang Yan, Bo Sorcerer, and Fierce Tiger. I was not getting even remotely close on any of them.
They just don't feel fair. Way too fast, too strong, too versatile.

You are naturally drawn to the castle though, both visually and with the way the level layout is set up. Not to mention, pay attention to the doors. Any big door that is located center to the wall or has a bunch of obvious shit like corpses near it, is an obvious boss fight. In the case of southern general, it's a long stair case leading to a door.
Generally avoid such doors until you discover another way inside and and confirm that it's not a boss room but actually just a big hall and the main doors are just locked from the inside that later serve as short cuts.

You're so point constrained in NG that that you can't seriously invest in a second weapon and have a full 5 feathers until you're near lvl 40, and that second weapon won't come fully online until about level 60. Doubling up on a single weapon type is the best, particularly when both those weapons scale off the same stats. The second best set up if you don't main longswords is putting just enough points into longswords for Feather generation on second hit and quick heavys so you can swap to it when you need to posture break. Third best set up is one point in 1h swords for passive feather generation. If you have enough points for two weapons, then the only thing that matters is making sure you use weapons that scale off the same stats and unlocking those stat nodes.

That's a valid complaint, but you need to take into consideration that capping a game's score to 7 despite it's objective quality because it doesn't tick this one arbitrary box is silly. I could cap Wuchang to a 5/10 because the questlines are easily broken/missed, or that the quest rewards are mostly dogshit, or the weapons don't have unique light/heavy combos within types, but I know better than to let minor complaints spoil my fun. The problem with Wuchang is that it's FULL of questionable design decisions and jank that hold it back, so a 6/10 score is more than fair. It's not like 6/10 is a bad score for a first game for a new dev. At least people are talking about the game, and that's more than you can say for 99% of games released nowadays on Steam.

With the complete edition, it's worse since it requires 3.5 full playthroughs (all new outfits locked in NG++) requiring doing all or most sidequests per playthroughs. So far the combat is great, but some of the unparryable moves are unclear. I know fists and kicks are unblockable, but one of the enemies was using a carcass as a club and it still doesn't count as a weapon.

I appreciate that pretty much every armor is useful for something due to all the resistances, but I wish loadouts were a thing. Or the ability to sort gear by ascending/descending stats, so I can quickly stack whatever I need.

Ye, and I had three characters built up by the time it released and used guides for the second run through. Overall the DLC was a pretty big downgrade from the main game. The quests were more obtuse, the bosses felt like they were designed around having a Sekiro parry, and the overall plot rewrote characters like Radhan and Miquella for the worse. Erdtree is easily the WORST souls DLC released.

I'd put it behind Khazan, on par with LOP, and ahead of Lords of the Fallen. AI Limit is comparable as a goon game but they're really in different budget brackets so it feels a bit rude to compare them directly.

Level design is good, trash encounters are generally pretty reasonable (better than LOTF), and there's a good variety of progression/build choices (relative to LOP). Some of the design choices are questionable in 2025 like terrible runbacks, slow elevators, bloodstains in the boss room, and bad UI shit. There are times where the player boss design weren't done in sync, like where attacks will involve a long, vulnerable pirouette while the boss continues their branching seven hit combo without flinching. They missed the memo on human-sized boss tells that are obscured by particle effects or Wuchang's fat ass (not to be confused with the boss attacks that explicitly involve throwing up a particle effect to hide their tell). There's a certain relentless tempo to most bosses that I can understand the design choice but don't personally agree with. Same stance on the endless armor fiddling to address status effects (did we really need Blight AND Corruption?) and damage types. I like the dense, interconnected levels but it does feel like it sometimes feels like an aimless wander and could benefit from some better signposting, especially with quests.

Story is incomprehensible Chinese soulslop with an amnesiac protagonist and too many literal whos, so about as expected.

Unlikely, it seems the Feathering is a very specific occurrence in the Sichuan region, which would make sense as that were the historical Bo people lived more or less.
According to item descriptions from chapter one: while traveling her sister dies after meeting a random, and they start seeking a way to get her back.
Attracted by the stories of red mercury elixir they come to Sichuan and then Wuchang got infected and mindbroken by Liu Hongliu (the mutant bird optional boss) and she gets saved by the trustworthy cheerful Daoist, and the game starts.
