In reality, the only periods in time where single player had a chance to really take on multiplayer was in the home markets with the Third and Fifth Gens, and even then, those were both nowhere near "overwhelming majorities" and would require you to pretend that arcades didn't exist, weren't prominent, and weren't overwhelming multiplayer during this time.

TES6 is probably in development since Fallout 76, the first trailer was released 8 years ago and because of Startflop it probably won't be released until early 2030s since it only got into full production around 2023, because Bethesda are extremely incompetent. We also officially have Fallout 5 in works which will be delivered after TES6, so it will be released in mid-to-late 2030s.

You couldn't have "Day 1 DLC", that "should be in the game!". So the solution is to just finish it the same time as the game and wait a few months. You can't put your DLC on a disc, you need to waste bandwidth and lock it to a server that can close forever, because "I bought the disc I should have everything!". So that's what you do just put on the server instead and render it forever gone when they close. Gamers won!

Most of the time DLCs are made along with the game to rake in extra money from idiots or because of time constrains during development, so after release developers wait a while and release expansions with DLCs later. Sometimes they make DLCs as preorder bonuses to gather attention, because it's easy money for publishers since retards buy it like crazy.
Very few times DLCs with expansions are made after base game is made because they simply couldn't fit material into the game.
