That's where 'Immersion' comes in, as in deep engagement with the work, like a book that you read and your suspencion of disbelief kicks in. There are 'objective' masterpieces of gaming like Tetris and Counter Strike, but those are more of a craft, to be appreciated the same way as chess. But people still play GTA because they want to drive over people with cars and shoot shit up.
