On my first channel I have a really nice successful HL2 Mod LP. I am happy that I made it.
On my second channel I make on hour LPs to give an overview of the games.

My channel isn't as appealing as most because I'm playing games that no one has heard of or played. It's funny because I played Bloodshed on release showing off the game and basically shilling it for free. It has 20~ views. Jim would fantasize about the things he would do to Holmes while Buzz cackled incessantly and egged him on. I stopped listening to the podcast because of this, but sometime after Holmes left the podcast it seems Buzz was able to successfully groom Jim into being an unironic SJW and he transitioned. It was tragic to watch. I stopped following Jim as his videos started to include more and more of his ideology. I don't dare look anywhere in his direction today, but that doesn't stop him from popping up from time to time just as a seeming reminder of a good game journo gone bad.

I don't mind watching streamers play games. What really annoys the hell out of me though are when those streamers deliberately mess up or take stupid risks 'for the content'. Unironically what killed LPs was the PewDiePie/Markiplier style LP where the YouTuber doesn’t really have a goal while playing and they could upload like 20 episodes a day. They would play games like Happy Wheels and Minecraft which had no real end (Minecraft technically does but it might as well not), and they often also never finished a game with an actual end.
That’s when LPs blurried the line between being a Let’s Play and a regular old gameplay video. They died because they started blending in with every other type of video about games.

I used to do YT playthroughs like 10ish years ago of turn based JRPG's. I would average 1-3k views and attracted some weird stalker type people who would try to find my other accounts to friend me and stuff and send me letters and shit.

It was comfy aside from that. I think the last game I played was Hexyz Force or Crimson Gem Saga during launch week. I would just speak and offer tips instead of adding notes to the video in post because it took no effort to edit. I wonder if that could be called a pseudo LP or not.

I think youtube gaming videos were always bound to go this way. 2006-2018 saw the rise of casual gamers, and now that is starting to decline a bit, and I don't think that's a coincidence. I think normies were somewhat enjoying the distractions but were unable to keep up with the hobbyists, so game companies started to tailor to them, but ultimately they weren't getting the same rewards out of it that the gamers were getting. They wanted stories to be told or sandboxes to build and destroy, not proper challenges and intellectual bouts.

With YouTube, the normies now have a place to go to get the experience they want from the hardcore game of the stories or watching people engineer stuff without having to endure the stress of learning it themselves.

Last time I checked in on him a few years later, he was doing a mid-tier stream with dozens of viewers, and someone asked him how he felt about Pat getting like, a model made after him or being in like his favorite creator's game or some shit, basically Pat getting a pretty big accolade. Liam, not even exaggerating, started to have a panic attack on stream and ended it early. That's the last I ever heard of him.

I saw some on /v/ and other boards complain about Northernlion and new focus on streaming and I understand their hatred for that change. But holy fuck I am amazed he can still banter just as well as he had since the nlss and the binding of isaac days. I put a Librarian video on in the background about his trip to Hello Kitty world in Japan and the way he just spews his bizarre experience and middle age crisis off the cuff is still great. I just wish he played more story games like Resident Evil. I am amazed he fully played Silent Hill 2 Remake considering what he plays now. I used to like Linkara when I was younger. Worse yet, I used to like JelloApocalypse during his "Welcome to" era of videos back in the early 2010s. Mostly because I thought both were playing characters and were probably actually humble people outside of their videos.
