Between Warband, its DLCs and mods, and WFAS, I have like 5000 hours and I am not ashamed of them
About 600 on Bannerlord, M&B classic and Carribean too
The only retail game on the engine I have never played is that one Chinese one; I don't even know what it's called but I want to try it sometime

Wait until your party size is about 80-100 before becoming a vassal. Being a merc for a faction is fine before that but you'll get stomped if you become a lord too early. Also try to get a castle once you do, that way you can "bank" troops.

Yes. Played the shit out of it. Plenty of fantastic mods. I especially like the ones that let you design your own troops and troop trees, there's something extremely satisfying about fighting with an army you've created yourself. It's like watching your children.

I love both Starsector and Kenshi. But not everyone likes sandbox games. Especially with Kenshi you kind of need to employ your imagination to make up scenarios and goals that enhance your gameplay. If you don't, and overfocus on stats and shit like that, it can certainly get repetitive and boring.

Tournaments can be very profitable if you're confident in your skill.
Otherwise buying workshops in cities provides a great passive income. I always try to buy some before commiting to any faction.

I like doing tournaments and betting on myself, IIRC you get something like 5500ish denars once you win. Doing jobs for guild masters or lords helps in-between them, particularly lords since you gain reputation with them. They don't necessarily even have to be lords of the faction you're planning on joining

I have well over 1000 hours, maybe even over 2000 in Warband, but I have never played the original Mountain Blade, Viking Conquest nor Napoleonic Wars.
Are they worth playing? I doubt they're better than most of the mods, right?

Better than that novel-based sequel, but I had mixed feelings about the game itself. The character models were pretty shit, even for the time. Who would've thought that having the treatment of women accurate to the depicted time would be something that absolutely not fly like half a decade later? I wish they never made bannerlord and instead just did all sorts of dlc. China. Rome. Native americans. Etc. At least there are mods, but they were on such a roll.

I last played mountain blade back in 2018 and recently returned to gaming, pleasantly surprised to see a bunch of mods still being updated.

Been playing Shokuho recently, it's pretty nice. I wish they'd rebalance the troop trees though, some cultures just have much longer and very obviously superior trees, while a lot of others just have very basic generic ones. I have no idea what was the idea there.

Well I appreciate the improvements to battles, like being able to field way more units without the game choking, the superior formations and commands as well as the vastly superior sieges.
But they dropped the ball on nearly everything else. The economy in general is probably the worst part, followed by the fief management and lord relations/marriage.

God, they were great. Holdfast helps scratch the itch a bit, but muskets are so accurate in that game. Half the fun of Napoleonic Wars was rolling the dice on your shot and then charging in with the bayonet.

What went wrong? I remember modding support being one of the selling points during development of Bannerlord and it made sense, they just needed to make a solid, improved Warband to serve as a baseline ffs. Modders would have taken care of the rest.

When it came out yeah. Nowdays because of all the QoL changes in Bannerlord and generally how clunky it was it's impossible for me to play it nowdays. Especially since all the big mods I used to love (perisno) were turned and gutted into utter shit. Plus mods are still fucking unstable as fuck.

Looting hamlets brings in a lot of cash, with the penalty of that hamlet and its lord hating you.
So usually I would select one or maybe two hamlets in each kingdom as designated raiding targets. The ones that were in the middle of nowhere, far behind the lines.
The lords would rarely come to help, and with some good scouts you could see them from a mile a way. And that way only one town, and one lord really really hate your shit, but the rest dont care.
