To extrapolate on this-
Most 2D games that tried to move to 3D failed.
Compare Mario64 with Bubsy 3D - most 2D franchises trying to make the jump ended on the Bubsy end of the scale and just died as franchises or went back to selling the old games as classics only (ie. Lemmings)

Somehow though, Sonic Adventure, even though it was dogshit awful, managed to attract a small (autistic) fan base, just enough to keep the games going.
Sonic has been the same stupid goofus since SA and since Chris-chan and co. like it, it stays.

Sonic ideally should have died as a franchise.

You just cant imagine a platformer mascot with an actual personality, drive, morals and lore instead of the quiet Spyro, Crash, Mario etc. Sonic is simply in a league of his own, He is like a comic book character. Also Sonic Team has soul, thats why it fucks up so much, and also why their OST's have been mogging everyone elses for decades now

How do the Game Grumps, after all these years, even have an audience large enough to influence the majority of people's opinions on Sonic? OP, you have gotta realize, those morons are irrelevant. The actual issue is that public resentment for Wonic heroes has always been there. All the game Grumps did was reignite an old flame of hatred in people's hearts. They created a talking point and the people who despised the game since their childhood revived their vengeance. Think about it for a second, Heroes was:
>Drastic shift in gameplay from the Adventure games
>Heroes being a Nintendo game signified the fall of Sega consoles
>Recycled way too many boss fights.
>Team Chaotix's colecton stages sucked ass
>People got filtered by Rail Canyon's jump in difficulty
>Team dark didn't get enough cutscenes, the whole Omega and Shadow Androids thing was confusing to kids until Shadow the Hedgehog (the game) went more into detail on it
>only redeeming factor is Crush 40 and Metal Sonic
And many many more reasons why Heroes had garnished dislike over the years. It's not an absolute unredeemable mess like 06 or Boom but people turning on it isn't surprising in the slightest.

Heroes was...fine in my opinion. I can see why people dislike it though. Not a fan of the whole slippery rubber engine they used in Heroes and Shadow.

Hell I used to get made fun in grade school for liking Sonic long before this fag was ever a part of public consciousness. It goes back way further. Probably around when Shadow and Sonic X came out.
