>>717078364 Cause most metroidvania have rpg elements which is more similar to castlevania I think. In Metroid you collect your upgrades and you get stronger and stronger so if you get stuck you can always backtrack and collect more stuff. All indie metroidvanias I played have things like levels and switchable gear so finding something new isn't necessarily an upgrade.
>>717078294 (OP) Are you insane? Metroid Dread has constant qte and cutscene interruptions, shitty boss fight, barely any music or real gameplay compared to hollow knight go back to playing metroid prime scan games instead 3d metroid is more up your speed shitter

>>717078294 (OP) exploration and atmosphere mainly, theres a ton of hidden stuff and those heureka moments where a long path plops you back somewhere youve already been
the combat also gets pretty deep, but it takes a shitton of time to get there so that is a valid L
>>717078294 (OP) Dread is linear as shit with worse combat and worse platforming. Path of Pain is one of my all-time favourite platforming segments in all of vidya.
Hollow Knight forever living rent free in in Metroidregs' minds.

>>717081010 Well, I was looking for them constantly while playing, and didn't find any. And the game constantly cuts off backtracking, making you follow the linear path the devs designed for you. The game sucks as a metroidvania.

I liked HK, but I don't feel like replaying it because movement is way too slow.

>>717078294 (OP) Both the exploration and combat clicks for me after i got used to the pogo/downslash
Also the music on this game is just fine, kinda overrated. Great sound design though
>>717081010 Skippable sections are pretty different from intentionally nonlinear level design. Skips are more aimed at people who have played the game before and are already very knowledgeable about the mechanics and mostly reward people who are trying something different or speedrunners. Nonlinear level design, on the other hand, is aimed at someone playing the game for the first time and going in blind. They serve different functions in level design.
