Why did they make one of the most scary levels/segments in the Shadow Temple region and how come they've never brought it back? I was so terrified playing this as a kid that I couldn't beat it until I was older lol

If you actually played that level as a 6-7 year old kid it was scary af. If you played it as a teen or older you'd likely played scarier games.

This was back when the series didn't had such a strong image to protect, they also didn't had some overarching lore that must come above anything else, they could just make up stuff like saying that the Hyrule royalty had trained ninjas protecting them from the shadows and torturing people in their name, nowadays they probably have to follow some Zelda bible filled with no-nos
