Why are there still so few buttons on controllers? Could use 2-4 more

Most games don't use that many buttons. You have keyboards if you want to play autism simulators anyway.

Retarded take. Most games don't use that many buttons because there aren't that many buttons. Most games need that many buttons, as evidenced by how many actions now require holding a button and pressing the button for something different.

Video games are stepping away from depth and going more towards the simplification direction. That's why controllers never got more buttons and also why back paddle buttons never became their own REAL functioning buttons and are still used for mapping

Macros and keyboard key presses make all the difference.

This was an old version of a proxy controller I saw. Said they're working on another version. You need a cronus max to make use of the extra buttons and of course soldering + 3D print skills.

The shell is not 3d print, just one of the Amazon shells you can get. The idea is you just feed the wires to the proxy controller and use mouse microswitches or whatever you want for the buttons. Unsolder the thumbsticks and move them into the new shell. It's not experimental because he's been using an old frankentroller version for years.

You don't need more buttons, the controller is just designed like shit. Dual analog isn't even good and it's preventing you from using 11 of those buttons.

The fundamental problem is still dual analog. They need to be more simplified, because introducing more complexity would directly translate to more ambiguity.
>You walk up to a pile of swords, look at the sword you want with your mouse and take it
>You walk up to a pile of swords and start wading through them until the controller prompt for the correct sword lights up and you pick up the wrong sword, because you moved a micrometer too far
You gain nothing from more buttons as long as dual analog remains a tolerated control scheme, let alone the lowest common denominator.

Get a third party controller. Some of them have up to 8 or more extra buttons

>>717101487
Honestly, what hood does that do when devs create games based on first party controllers and you can't even change binds?

Unironically because people are too retarded to use them

It's why most games are getting casualized to cater for modern people who have brainrot from the tiktok and other adhd apps

to do what? I already took off the back paddles from my elite controller because they are useless. it's perfect as it is now, more buttons would just clutter the controller. it's designed so everything important is at thumb reach easily recognized without looking

>get rid of the useless center-most button
>redo the start and select buttons
>add black and white buttons to the bottom right like the OG xbox controller
wa-la, controller fixed

I use the center button all the time and miss it on the older elite controller. I would argue there should be even more center buttons that could be bind to quick system actions like volume/mic/vibrations etc.

I thought it was always used for screenshots and stream sharing and other useless shit like that, does it actually serve a real purpose other than that?

What for?

Left analogue = wasd
9 directional pad = 123456789
2 bumper + 2 triggers = mouse buttons and shift
2 middle buttons = esc and enter
4 front buttons = e, r, q, space

It already has more buttons than you need.
Don't try to say that you're an mmo player. Mmos are dead.

You do need more buttons. Controllers have needed more buttons since at least the 7th gen, when it became standard for games to be developed for both consoles and PC simultaneously. On KB/M you have very easy access to at least 25 buttons without stretching your fingers too far from WASD. The standard controller has a grand total of 16 buttons.
Games have been constantly and obviously compromised as a result.

Because you have to build your game around the controller with the least amount of buttons if you're multi-plat. That's also why so few games make use of the superior interfacing device that is a mouse for their UIs. I sure love my lists that can't display more than 5 items.
