They're fine. 7 is quite aesthetically pleasing and 8's pretty fun too. 6 is a nice introduction, over-represented but I won't blame that on ZUN. Everyone knows the characters and it's always safe to throw them into a new game. Give me more Seiran, please. Fans somehow skip over the fun dynamic she and Ringo could have and that disappoints me.
After playing the demo for the upcoming Fossilized Wonders, I'm cautiously optimistic. As long as Wonder Stones aren't overly intrusive and there's enough resources after the third stage, it should be another series high. Difficulty + weird gimmick is exactly why I dislike UFO despite its characters and music. The music in FW is nice, and Chimi grew on me quick; Nareko was an immediate hit, and Ubame is another mountain hag that I don't mind, pretty good stage 1 boss.
Another thing I noticed about the demo is the stage 1 theme's shift when the midboss enters. I seriously hope ZUN uses this to its fullest potential, like for the final boss. Yuyuko kind of had that already but that was good, so make the ending hype.
