MMOs were a relic of their time and relied heavily on the novelty of talking to people over the internet. Now that is no longer novel, so the driving force that made MMOs what they are is gone and there's no way to ever replicate it again.

The only time I was really into an MMO was when I had a shit job and no local friends to go out with. When my IRL improved, I had less interest in the game and dropped it.

This. nu-devs dont understand how or why mmos worked because they've never played them. The people that did play them in their heyday now only play for a month or so in a friends-only guild, the only interaction they have with others is trolling them with their buddies.
