Reject modern slop racing games
Embrace old,better racing games
>>717107720 (OP)I'm already embracing it with the new TXR
>>717111260that's ok,it's one of the few modern racing games that isn't slop
>>717107720 (OP)>weird progression>open world races, you end up losing track.>tunning is worthless.NFSU2 and NFSMW will always be superior
holy shit man
i had this on the psp back in the day
>>717111865It's okay to say you got filtered anon
There's no big budget street racing games this generation aside from NFS Unbound
>>717113187>NFS UnboundI went to watch a gameplay to see what it looked like.
this shit is painful to see
>>717111865>weird progressionIt's just challenging city racers, that's it. How weird is that?
>open world races, you end up losing track.Skill issue, unironically.
I much prefer the open ended tracks to the ones that close you off like NFS.
>tunning is worthless.Never used tuning on NFS either.
>>717114735>I much prefer the open ended tracks to the ones that close you off like NFS.But the thing about Midnight Club games is that being 'open ended' is a joke since the AI is almost always so hard and so perfect that there's at most two routes to actually win a race and not end up way out in last. Or ONE route, if it's a checkpoints-in-order race.
>>717114735>Never used tuning on NFS either.you are lying.
on NFSU2 tunning is a must to progress.
on NFSMW you can skip it but still have to at least paint the car to reduce the heat.
>>717111865>weird progressionit's called open world, and it used to be an interesting and engaging way to design a game before it turned to slop
>open world races, you end up losing trackaka races that reward you for general knowledge of the city you're racing in (knowledge that is gained from exploring and challenging races in an open world; see the first point).
>tuning is worthlessit's not worthless, it's just not involved outside of name brand recognition. it's an arcade racer, if you want sim go play Gran Turismo or something else.
>>717114930reducing the heat is pretty much pointless when it rises extremely fast
>>717114930I thought the "tuning" in that context meant the one you can do on the spot to adjust the car physics and such(like the dyno in NFSU2) which is a feature in both NFS and MC that I never use.
But if he meant the literal tuning to upgrade the car then that it's even more retarded of a point because it's also a must have to progress in MC3. Sure changing visuals is worthless but they are so cheap that it doesn't get in the way.
>>717115584I did years ago, I haven't done it again because my console broke down, so you can pretend i didn't to win this argument
>>717107720 (OP)Amen
Being replaying recently Blur, Race Driver Grid and OutRun 2006, online with my buddies, and we're living our best lives
>>717115687Whatever helps you feel "based"
does someone actually need more than this?
>>717116441I have never played gran turismo and i never will, cry more snoy
>>717107720 (OP)Cars just aren't cool anymore, car culture is dead so racing games don't appeal to anybody but boomers
>>717116596thats a (you) problem kiddo, not mine
>>717116671that's because zoomers are broke and they can only afford netflix and streaming services, not cars or houses
>>717111865Underground 2, Most Wanted and Midnight Club 3 all have the same tuning more or less. You grind money, buy every package as you unlock them. At best, Underground 2 has a dyno and can play around with the ECU map.
>>717111865Tuning absolutely matters for like 10 cars. The CLK GTR is almost useless until its tuned, for example. It won't turn.
>>717116441Vanilla GT4 is kind of dog shit when you're no longer a child during 6th gen. As an adult, you "need" Spec II at the minimum to enjoy this game. Otherwise I'd rather be playing GT3.
If you want OP, I can do that.
>>717116864>>717116995>>717115325I might used a wrong word. we call it tunning here. you might call it ricing or modifying or I don't know.
I ain't talking about ECU settings at the like, but putting spoilers, rims, hood lights...
>>717117349As far as I'm aware, ricing you car in order to progress through the game was always one of the more hated features of NSFU2, so much that one of the more popular mods is to remove the star rating system entirely.
>>717117056Why don't I see a clover on your car
>>717117572it might be.
still ricing was a must for progression in vanilla NFSU2
>>717117746'cuz this household is an advan household
>>717117349Apparently tire width changes your traction limit like in real life
I've been emulating some PS2 racing games recently
>Underground 1: great handling, events are varied enough, drags are quite annoying and random, I didn't mind not having open world, in fact I like the straightforward and simple progression, you don't have to rice your car to finish the game, late events get pretty tough with the rubberband (when I was a kid I never finished the game) but I managed without having to downgrade my car
>Underground 2: handling is a bit worse than UG1 but still pretty good, a bit more event variety, you can now choose what kind of events you want to focus on to finish the game which is pretty nice, URLs were either boring or annoying, late game progression is pretty sloggish because you need to do a lot of races, many of which are either long or hidden on the map, open world isn't that good and I wish I could just use fast travel, soundtrack was good but again a bit worse than UG1, having to rice your car to finish was also pretty bad
>Most Wanted: having the entire game progression divided into Blacklist drivers you have to defeat is a pretty neat idea, some events tend to be pretty long, fortunately you don't have to do everything to progress, event variety is a bit worse since they killed drifts and Street X and toll booths/speedtraps are not that interesting, handling is pretty good but there's some fuckery with how your car behaves when you have to combat cops, cops themselves are pretty fun to battle against, you really need to disable that shitty game action camera though otherwise you're bound to drive over spikes eventually, Razor ends up being a pretty easy final boss but previous games were also pretty easy in this regard, challenge series is a bit boring, good car variety but I ended up just using the Golf, customisation is much weaker than in UG2 but good enough most of the time
[cont]
>Carbon: lots of good ideas but the game feels undercooked a bit, good handling, neat idea to divide cars into tiers and types, I'm glad drifts are back and drags went out, I really liked canyon battles, I didn't really care about the crews, having to defend my territory was pretty annoying (later I just used an exploit to skip it), cops are also more annoying now and they spawn more, there's also no incentive to combat them so you just feel like you're wasting your time, the game is really easy until the last chapter, even then it's possible to conquer using weaker cars (I beat the game with 240sx which is technically tier 1 but realistically closer to tier 2), Darius feels much more like a proper challenge, even though this time I beat him pretty easily, Autosculpt is a neat idea but I never used it myself
>Colin 3: pretty slidy handling, the career mode only lets you play as Colin in his Focus, on super special stages the opponents were glitching out and stopping on walls for whatever reason, normal difficulty is pretty easy, Hard is more of a challenge, I dropped it when I slightly touched the opponent car on the super special staged and it disqualified me, ruining my entire standing, I played Colin 4 back in the day and it's better in pretty much every single regard
>Juiced 2: pretty weird handling, the races are quite boring, really good car selection, drifting sometimes works and sometimes it just breaks, depending on the stage, I couldn't care less about the betting and pink slips

i should emulate outrun 2 sp sdx at home and learn to play it seriously desu
i have a confession to make... i think Underground 2 sucks ass
>>717120586I can understand that. Gets really repetitive with how it makes you do the same race a gorilion times. It's specially egregious with URL races.
I mostly really like that game for the vibe of it.
>>717107720 (OP)If ive never played older racing games what should I play?
Is there a chart?
>>717107720 (OP)How are you supposed to beat me
IF YOU DON'T HAVE A CAR?
>>717111260>>717111438And it's fucking awesome.
>>717120787https://youtu.be/1A5SQjSgMM4
>>717111865How do you lose track with the massive arrow above you?
Atlanta>San Diego>Detroit
I don't care about Tokyo
>>717117349So it's bad because it doesn't force you to install ugly ass body kits?
No modern racing games have actually improved.
I can't play old open world games after crusing around in Hawaii in my custom Bugatti in The Crew Motorfest .

>>717121962>No modern racing games have actually improved.Correct. Modern racers haven't improved anything. You can't beat the classics.
Is there anything at all worth it in the Steam sale?
>>717121518It's because of the jumps isn't it?
>>717107720 (OP)>modern slop racing gamesThey still make racing games??????????
The last good NFS was Carbon and that's why people fellate the UG-Carbon era so much. They perfected was NFS should be and then just threw it in the trash for no reason.
>>717122756yes and they suck dick, like a zoom
>>717122964Gay.
I still play old games like Midnight Club 2 now and then, but damn I'd kill for a new fucking game to play online. The only shit that's active is simulator slop and games for literal schizophrenics like TrackMania (good luck fighting out what the fuck the track is made out of)
It's all so tiresome
>>717111260I want to play it so bad but I want it to be done first for the maximum best experience
It's hard to wait
>>717122354Nu-NFS + Burnout Paradise remaster are all like $5 each, for that price they're alright
I'd be curious about WRC but I'm not sure it it's worth it in place of DR2
>>717120586Congratulations, you applied some critical thinking
>>717119967He understood
>>717123525Must have took you forever to draw a high res clover. I think I just settled for a 2x2 brush
>>717124552It absolutely did but thankfully it was only like 4 colors so I just tabbed over to Paint.NET and recreated it one color at a time. Easier than F-Zero GX's emblem editor, but at least there there's a tool for importing images to memory card files (if you're emulating).
>>717123525The only acceptable logo is the air combat logo.
>>717123228September is right around the corner, it's going to be worth the wait
