Just play it on Game Boy Color if you like turn based games. If you don't like the core gameplay no amount of prettied up graphics and cutscenes will engage you

I don't know I didn't pay 60 bucks before. If on sale is 10% off then I still don't care. Pricing on this is retarded and I say that with 3 as my favorite. 60 is the pricing for DQ11. This is not a game built like DQ 11 this is a massively overpriced port with added features and not a full blown remake.

For me part of the appeal of the classic DQ games is how much they are player directed and don't rely on giant cutscenes to explain the story to you, DQ3 HD added a lot more cutscenes

I hate when people judge RPGs this way. Just talking about the number of gimmicks in the battle system as a measure of fun with no regard to any other balancing or structure. The difference between DQ3 and FFX is that you can actually get in a dangerous situation by exploring and not every fight is piss easy. That in DQ3 you have to carefully pick and choose your upgrades when you get to a new town because you never have enough money. That even though the story is linear the world trusts you to explore it and you can sequence break in a hundred different ways if you have a deep grasp of the mechanics.

Oh but there's no gimmicks in the battle system so it's "basic." Fuck off

The gimmick in DQ1-9 is that you have to select the actions of all your party members before you know what the enemy will do on your turn, and it's a damn good gimmick. It means every battle is a gamble and you are always split between reacting to what the enemy did last turn and preparing for what they'll do on their next turn.

On in the remake you can set it to auto so your healers will heal on the same turn you get hit so you don't have to think about it. You can even set only them to auto and manually pick for everyone else.

Well, if you could tell what the enemy would do in advance, it would no longer be a strategy game and instead just be a color-matching game where you respond to precisely what the enemy is going to do.
I think there's a middle-ground, like Enchant Farm with how you can view 1 action each enemy will take during this round of battle, but not -every- action if the enemy will use multiple attacks.

I loved most of it, it's too fucking long, I turned the game speed up to maximum about half way through and it still took me 70 hours to reach the credits, I didn't even do the post credit content or play around with the character building and class content.
The graphics were okay, the music is good, gameplay strategy is non existent once you get your speed attribute high enough, then it's just memorizing who is weak to what.
I do think releasing 3 first was a mistake, the second map doesn't hit if you're unfamiliar with DQ lore like I was going in.
The stinger at the end of the credits doesn't justify releasing these games out of order.

I enjoyed it a lot. I've loved the HD-2D art style since Octopath although I wish the sprites were a bit more like Octopath than what they went with. Also wish they should the party animated during battles. I was also annoyed that the battle menu constantly covered the Hero. The monster wrangler class was fucking tight though. Which game is your favorite in the series?

I honestly don't like the HD-2D style, I've always found it ugly, however for DQ I think they finally did it in a way that looks good for once.

My favorite is probably VII(PS1) or VIII(PS2). I honestly can't really decide on one, but I've been meaning to replay VIII for a while now since I played through it much longer ago than VII.

But I think the game was on sale and then I used an additional like 7% off voucher.

>the computer can actually do things at an advantage because depending on how the game handles command allocation, the AI might be able to make choices mid-turn rather than pre-turn
You might not consider this fun or good, but knowing that this is an option is just another tool in your kit as a player. Same with something like EarthBound, where picking Auto Fight is a viable strategic move when you physically do not have time to enter in commands manually due to HP ticking down to zero, and the CPU will direct healing to whoever needs it faster than you could. (especially on the SNES version in English where the menus are slow/laggy as fuck)

I don't think so either, I don't care for that personally, I didn't even talk about it, but it's what everyone points out so I don't blame for assuming that's what I meant. I don't know if you want a genuine answer but in case you do, the exploration part of the game, which is the main drive of the game, is completely disregarded in the remake, the remake is no longer a treasure hunt, it's just functionally a different experience and one that I don't think is anything special personally.

>Elaborate on what "less content" means.
T'n'T boards got cut.
>The rest of your seething in that post is meaningless.
Yeah, a game about ADVENTURE giving you the full map of a dungeon the moment you enter it and highlighting everywhere you need to go with direct text on what to do at all times is absolutely meaningless and not innately detrimental to the title.
And yeah, you know what Dragon Quest 3 needed? The game that had barely any story because it's a game where the characters are all blank slates to project onto? Hours of voice acted cutscenes, of course.
This doesn't even get into how the game is just neutered difficultywise, it barely offers what could be considered a challenge at the best of times, even on the highest difficulty.
>If it's like the FF Pixel Remasters and they just removed shit that was added in later releases I don't care
I don't see how that's a real defense for anything. You release a remake and call it the definitive version, but then you don't include content attached to that title from prior versions. Especially bad in FF's case, where FF2's whole bonus story that fleshes out a good chunk of the cast is just not present.

Irony to making this post when someone else (potentially yourself) is having a mental breakdown about imagined posters in every thread personally attacking them.

I've played most versions. I wanted to try the new one. If they didn't remove the Troll's lips I would of gotten it.

This is what I recommend. No need to ever touch any Dragon Quest game.

It's the best overall version of a great JRPG that still holds up to this day even if you go back to the older editions of it.

But also it's asking a lot of money for a game that's barely improved over the previous runs that're trivial to get for nothing.

Nobody has ever successfully argued why the remake is supposedly better than any other version.

How is it on switch? I have a PC but this is a game made for switch, but if the load times and graphics are a huge step down then I might have to play on PC anyway.

Because you can pick it up and play in Handheld. And before you bring it up I know Steam 'ick exists, but I don't have one.

Invest my friend. It's worth it. Despite the switch 2 upgrade, it looks like major poopy with high framerates. Leave the Switch 2 for Nintendo exclusive. Nearly every 3rd party exclusive eventually lands on Steam

The OG trilogy remakes feels like it's opened the doors to slowly release the entire series to modern platforms. They could port the Zenithian Remakes + 7 Remake + 8 3DS version. The only game that feels like it truly needs a ground up remake is 9. I'd sacrifice everyone for a 9 remake.

Stop asking for the ugly as sin 3DS 8 version. Red and Morrie add nothing of value. They need to get Level-5 back to redo 8 and keep that sweet ps2 ui and beautiful graphics.

I dunno, I watched a comparison vid yesterday and Framerate Mode looked pretty bad in the resolution department and vice versa for Resolution Mode where you get a measly 30fps. The resolution issue is lessened if you want to play more in handheld, but my issue lies more with the fact that you have to choose either Resolution or Framerate. With the Deck you get the full resolution it can run in handheld plus a locked 60fps, and you can always play on your beefy computer if you want more out of the game. I just don't see a purpose in buying 3rd party games on a console if you can get them on PC. If handheld is important to you, which I get because it's extremely important to me too, then why wouldn't you save up for a Deck?

I don't think remakes, especially hd2d, should be full priced. $40 should be base price.
