How do you manage to act at 35 when I'm 22 and my eyes are already ruined? - /v/ (#717121332) [Archived: 72 hours ago]

I don't get it. There are guys here who are 30, 35, 40, and still play video games like it's nothing. How do you do it?

I'm 22. I've spent my life in front of a screen because I was stuck at home. Farsightedness, astigmatism, chronic eye strain. My eyes literally burn every day. I've had glasses for six months and they're already obsolete. My ophthalmologist told me my eyes are degenerating too quickly. And that's ONLY been 22 years.

How did you guys manage to last until your age? Did you all go blind in one eye? Do you play with one eye closed? In Braille? Or are you lying and haven't played for a long time, just hanging around here to remember your youth?

I grew up with video games, I gave everything to this digital world, and here's the reward: I'm already half-blind before I'm 25.

Seriously, how do you do it?

my eyes are healthy and the screens have never given them issues despite using them a lot. never had glasses or contacts, never use sunglasses outside either. I should get a glovebox pair though. Had one ages ago and dunno what happened to em and never replaced em
I think you're conlfating your general eye issues and screens being a sole cause or causing issues in everyone. probably just exacerbates already weak eyes

Play on a big TV that's farther away from you, not on a computer monitor

You might want to discuss this with a fucking doctor rather than bitch about it on 4chan. There are many factors that can contribute to eye strain and vision loss, screen use is only a small, potential part. What you're describing sounds largely genetic, but I'm just some asshole on the internet, you really need to be talking to a medical professional.

Both my parents have glasses and I've spent at least 25 years online staring at screens. Still have 20/20 vision
You got skill issued.
Though it probably helps I spent at least half that time outside and only used comp at home.

There's no way its just your eyes, has to be other health/lifestyle issues

>turn your brightness down
>stop eating like shit
>move around every once in a while
>clean your glasses
>have enough distance between you and monitor
>have not too much distance between you and tv

So, I played for about two years on a low-end 43-inch 4K TV. I then sold it. I played at a distance of about 3 meters, which still seemed reasonable to me.

Today, I've upgraded to a 27-inch 1440p screen, with a viewing distance of a forearm. Despite this, my eyesight continues to deteriorate. Back then, I often played in the dark, with bright lighting. Now, I've installed lights behind the screen to reduce eye strain, but even with that, my eyesight is still deteriorating.

Yes, I eat poorly, I admit it. But honestly, I don't think it has a direct impact on my eyesight. At least, not as noticeably.

No, I think screens are largely responsible for the deterioration of my eyesight, because I spend at least 8 hours a day in front of a screen, and have done so for easily 10 years.

Since I know there are some hardcore gamers out there who spend years in front of their screens, it might be interesting to get their opinion, to know about their vision and their general health. But in the end, consulting a real doctor is still the best thing to do.

Somewhat related I guess. My parents were convinced that vidya ruined my eyesight.
>go to doctor when I was no older than 7
>vision test
>can barely see anything from afar
>still remember my doctor telling my mom that I'm "almost blind"
>parents freaks out
>they hide my consoles and handhelds for months
>but watching tv was still okay with them for some reason

Have you considered vision therapy, pencil pushups and the like? Even rolling your eyes can increase bloodflow and increase overall eye health. Practicing alternating between near and far vision helps l tremendously.

I've spent my life in front of a screen and I have 20/20 vis. Probably diet in large part and a bit of genes. Play low brightness and turn on night mode/warm colors 24/7.
