The plot twist in Expedition 33 is really bad. Like what the fuck was that?

my only real complaint about the plot twist is that they've made a very compelling concept without the twist

it easily could've gone without the twist, as long as they could've found another reason behind the paintress and monolith
but it probably wouldn't have been satisfying either, with their strong opening to the game

Act 1 introducing the characters, world, and focusing on the expedition is one of my favorite vidya moments.

but going from gustave to verso was a catastrophic downgrade not just how interesting the character was but in the quality of voice acting since verso is a fucking mumble mouth. still Act 2 was nice with its exploration but things really got weird in Act 3

the game would be kino if they just made Act 1 the whole game

Professional voice actors are a joke. Charlie Cox ( a real actor) came in for one day of voiceover and delivered easily the best performance in the whole game.

Real Verso faked his death in the fire to go join the writers. Painted Verso is a very accurate copy of him.

Gustave is our introduction to the world
from his prospective we see the whole start, the expeditions, what he brings to up their chances for success, his lost love, his brotherly support, his hopes and dreams to save his world

he's the underdog, and was learning of the continent just like we were

Verso in contrast knows just about everything, is effectively immortal (reducing stakes), and hides information from the expedition in a selfish way, for a majority of the game he's just an outsider and we're supposed to treat him as a new protagonist. Only near the end does his place in the story actually matter and even then it's for a mercy killing
