Are the Madden games any good? I didn't get into football until last year and the off season is so boring that it has me wanting to combine my hobbies with football vidya

No the modern madden games are terrible. I like football and you should genuinely just play real video games to pass the time, or watch interesting retrospectives on the sport. NFL Throwback has some top tier quality stuff.

Also the preseason started dude, just a month until the real season starts and you can watch preseason slopfests if you're desperate.

I mean they're pretty solid in regards to actual gameplay.

But the main problem with them is Ultimate Team. IIRC Madden 12 was the last one without Ultimate Team (or maybe 13?), but ever since then they've been stripped down of all single player features in order to push more ultimate team online play.

also fuck the cowboys

Fpbp, fuck modern football games, just enjoy the sport. Go watch some old NFL Films documentaries.

Lots of good stuff on YouTube and other places now. NFL does an amazing job as documenting, and especially, presenting its history in an entertaining and dignified way. Get invested in the history of your team and the heroes of the past.

I feel like Football has some of the highest quality content creators and official documentary products. Not even Soccer really has as stuff that is as good despite it being a much more popular, worldwide sport.

It doesn't matter if they're good, it's the only way your going to see the Cowboys win the Super Bowl in your lifetime.

Here's your protip. Just buy 1 sports game a console generation, unless you're a content streamer or a pro gamer who plays in tournaments, there isn't enough changes game to game to justify buying them every year.

If you're of a certain age NFL highlights and docuseries used to be a big part of your childhood, recreating those videos for YouTube is a pretty easy deal

You have to realize that most fans of the NFL live in a first world country while the majority of soccer fans live in shitholes

NFL Films is the main reason football is #1 in America. The music alone is god-tier, especially the classics by Sam Spence, but even the newer ones from Tom Hedden (90s) and David Robidoux (00s-present). Only one of the Big 4 major sports to have a theme for its trophy.

they're fine arcade games but they've never really been a good simulation of football. even in 2025 it's still just lame animation vacuum scripting, guys randomly sucking into eachother and sliding around as deemed fit by the game manager algorithm.

Also people didn't need to born as freak athletes to play in the NFL. Soccer and the NBA you're groomed from point your parents are told by a doctor you are going be over 6' 4"to play and go to schools all their life to teach you the game.
The other sports have lost that everyman appeal the NFL has.
The NFL is starting to get specialized athletes like you need to be an Olympic caliber sprinter to play KR/WR and CB but you still have over weight shlubs like Mahomes able to dominate with quick thinking and good angle running.

football is so fucking boring how can you even "get into" it
the gameplay makes no sense unless you read every single rule, they stop every 3 feet to gain ground and then pause for 5 minutes in between plays for ads to play, and they're all muscular men fondling each other. what are you a fuckin fag? watch a real sport like hockey

I enjoy the dedicated offense vs defense aspect of the game. I dislike the commercialization as much as everyone else. I enjoy how the rules are set up to allow for unique strategies and big plays. I think the field goal, touch down, and extra point/2point conversion system is very clever.
It has issues like every sport. But I like it.

One thing that is also underrated is the number of games. It is very easy to casually follow your team, or very closely follow your division, or even have an understanding of how the whole season is going thanks to it only being 17 games. Also NFL Redzone is a hell of a product.

I "hated" sports growing up and rejected watching them with my father. I said people who watch sports are meatheaded retards. I only got into them a few years ago and deeply regret not spending time with him watching them when he was such a big football fan.
