You actually don't have to fight the enemies it seems since they don't drop EXP or resources. It seems you mostly fight to get them out of the way. The main focus seems to be running away and gathering resources and health items you enshrine to get stat boosts or an amulet with a buff. I think the only fights that really matter are just the boss fights and they give you a weapon that doesn't degrade in those portions.

Checked the gamesradar hands-on. There is only a few new things mentioned.

There is a sound detecting monster in the game that you can kill but it will regenerate given enough time.
New areas, bosses, and branching paths open up after the first playthrough which will always get the canon ending. Looks like subsequent playthroughs are encouraged.

There are a lot of gender dynamics between men and women in the story. I thought this was a funny mention. On the radio it says "What good is a woman who can't even cook properly."

It's a miracle that SH4 is as good as it is with the time, budget, people, and task it was given. You can tell how rushed it is with the second half of the game being just the first half again, the majority of the story being put into the official website instead of in the game, 8 ghosts being missing, the game having only ONE boss fight, all promo character renders/models being unfished (pic rel), and a lot of unfished content found by fans in-game files like the UFO ending, unfished hauntings, and cutscenes regarding Eileen among other things. Still not as bad as SH3 where according to Ito a big chunk of time and resources were wasted on making the game a fucking arcade-style rail shooter because those were popular in Tokyo in the 2000s. Not to mention the story of SH3 changing like 3 times because of the original writer leaving Konami, Konami forcing Team Silent to change the (originally) stand-alone story into a SH1 sequel, and getting rid of Owaku's original plan of the game telling the darkest story in the series

SH4's combat was running in circles to gather enemies up in a group then melee attacking with a nonbreakable weapon because every swing would hit every enemies that was stacked up on each other letting you stunlock groups to death for 95% of the game. it's dogshit.

The SH2R is like the Matrix4, the studio was going to make it with the original creators' blessing or without, so the least they did was hire the monster designer and composer. I thought it was a great experience, but I can see why people hate on remakes since it'll overtake any future discussion regarding the original. I don't view games as art though; they're just products to immerse yourself in.
