Though JSR did have good graphics, they just prioritized different things. In order to get the outline effect, they have to overlay the model with a copy of itself, and then invert the normals, and cull backfaces. This is known as the "inverted hull" method. So when 1 model is on screen, it's actually using the polygons of two models.
In the image I posted, you see 6 characters, but they have the poly count of 12 characters. In in order to get that outline effect.

If they removed the outlines, they could make the character models twice as detailed, which would put it on par with other games of that era.

My biggest fear was it not having enough air mobility and throws breaking walls, but it has a good compromise of making the walls not loop, so you have a true wall after breaking the wall once unlike Strive where you just snowball your offense. One of the things that's coolest about MVC is that there's huge variety in character shapes. Spider-man is a buff dude who's crouching all the time, Amaterasu is a low-profiling dog, and Sentinel and Dormammu are super tall. Thats why characters with relatively stable power scalings are the most popular. Peter doesnt pull out new powers out of his ass and his stories had to be written around villains doing different shit which led Peter relying on help from other heroes instead of pulling out new powers he exactly needs from his asshole. Its same with Batman where despite having thickest plot armor in the universe he has relatively stable power level in comparison to other capeshit characters and instead of pulling powers out of his ass he pulls out new gadget or le preparation plan at most which is still a lot better than fucking up characters relative power scaling long term.
