They expected Wilds to explode just like World PC did. 10 million sounds great, but this is a multiplatform game AND it's Capcom's AAA GAAS title that's being supported with year-round free content.
Just to compare, Mario Kart World is a Switch 2 exclusive and only came out about 8 weeks ago. It's sold over 5.6 million copies, that's nearly a 1:1 attach rate with the Switch 2's console sales, and it's only going to continue selling huge for years to come long after release. That's the kind of thing Capcom was expecting from Wilds, but it's not happening.

They're nice games and it's fun to explore the Monster Hunter universe from a different perspective than what you get out of the mainline games but like >>717186578 mentions both games are plagued by a painfully basic rock paper scissors combat system. I've played both games and dropped both games around 70% of the way through mainly because the novelty of the games and collecting monsters just wasn't enough to hold my interest up to the finish line when the combat system just is not interesting enough to keep the whole game engaging.

That being said, literally one of the first things they mentioned following the announcement was a new battle system, so if Capcom finally made a new combat system that is not designed for literal children pre-middle school ages this might finally be the game in the series that I actually finish.

For context, the reason why the combat system is shitty is because MH Stories 1 was designed to be a gateway into the IP for young kids before they're old enough to understand how to play the main series, which is why you have the Yokai Watch cat sidekick (because it was targeting the Yokai Watch audience at the time.) However when the game came out they found that the majority of buyers were actually older gamers than they were expecting, which is why this series has been trying to "mature" into something that the target audience they weren't expecting is really looking for. It's honestly been pretty interesting to see how this series has been evolving as a result.

People have already made comparison videos where LR anjanath could one shot people or take 80% of their health with the equipment they had available. Nergi could do the same the first time you fight him for real (not the zorah magdaros fight), he can one shot too. Nothing in LR rise of wilds can do either of those things.

World was easy because of the infinite item chest and sharpening, but was mostly the same difficulty as earlier MH games. If anything it was more difficult, almost as hard as base tri was. Tri was by far the hardest MH ever made, barroth could filter people. Nobody remembers it because it was toned down for 3U but base tri was pretty difficult.

That's why p3rd was so piss easy, they overcorrected.

I think the official reasoning is that not enough people used the feature(you have to make one element value higher than the monster's default, which often means deleting all of its natural genes and making an overall worse monstie), but the real explanation is probably that it wasn't finished on time for release

The hunter is too empowered. In the old games you had to think about where you're standing, and how long your attacks would take - if the monster grazed you with his toe you'd get send flying like a ragdoll across the arena. The monster always had the upper hand, the dominating presence, and you worked around him with precise strikes.

In wilds it's the opposite..you can just spam spam spam and keep aiming with focus mode, never missing attacks or getting flinched and NEVER getting flung around no matter what the monster hits you with, and in fact the monster is the one on the ground 90% of the hunt. It's a total reversal. You don't have to pay attention at all. That's why hunts take 5mins now, the entire fight is just pure DPS and zero caution or awareness. Total shit

World launched in a more complete state than Wilds and Wilds is filled with design schizophrenia that's baked into the game and will be virtually impossible to scrub out. Like the popup camp garbage, the sekreit zoom zooming you through every map brainlessly despite le open world meme (which is also a lie but still), the weapon swapping, the seasons that just make your game look like shit half the time. You can't deny this shit literally go play both games and see for yourself retard. The reason why wilds is easy and hunts are 5mins is because positioning and caution don't matter, you can just spam attacks with no thought and there's no punishment at all

Wilds is just as bad as World was at launch, the only people complaining about Wilds are World tourists who became used to Iceborne being a completed game with a full monster roaster, the first game of every new generation is always gimped and doesn't become good until the G-rank or the portable games.
