Isn't it better to have R/L 1 and 2 than to be able to do the former? I can't imagine any real use for these two buttons in face position on OG xbox, certainly none of the racing games benefitted from not being able to switch gears from L1 or R1 (because ideally you'd have handbrake on R2, and if it's a good game which GT5 sadly is not, then L2 is for clutch, but it needs analog trigger so PS5 controller).

Come on, tell me which games in OG xbox made good use of these 2 buttons being in face position, as opposed to having them as L1/R1 position?

My controller comes with the two side buttons, 4 buttons on the back and gyro. I usually bind one of the right buttons to focus on a target, because that's easier to press than the right trigger stick. I then use a left button trigger to quickly change my invetory items, so I can keep running around.

I have no idea, man. It's the first ever controller I bought explictly for pc gaming. I can only say that I prefer the xbox layout. I just bought it, because people say it's the best controller ever and it's somehow cheaper than the standard ones you can buy, so it's really a no-brainer.

I will only get another controller, if my current one is broken. I imagine it will last for a decade at least. Really the problem is that games still haven't caught up to the technology. Games rarely make use of gyro or the rapid trigger function. My keyboard has rapid triggers and there is not a single game that properly uses it, even though the technology is there.

No, anon, it doesn't. The original PS1 pad, the Dual Analog, and the DualShock 1 all have purely digital buttons. The only way you were getting analog buttons on the PS1 was Namco's NegCon, which had two very long throw analog face buttons (for gas and brake, and one analog shoulder button too). It was the PS2 that added pressure sensitive buttons all over, but the throw is so short that most people don't even realize they're analog and most games pretty much just have 'half and full' inputs since they're too sensitive to make use of most of the range.

The touch pad on PS4/PS5 controllers are 2 buttons (physical button on each side), or 4 if you use the touch sensor (sensing which corner your finger is own when pressing down the sides). Xbox controllers are useless.

Feels pretty cheap and hollow overall and the d-pad is somehow worse. Very mushy but also clicky, like the buttons are soldered to rubber. There's this annoying padding on the trigger pull that doesn't quite feel right when you hit max, like it's hard to tell if it's all the way pulled. No hard stop, and the plastic flexes. Also need to use chinese spyware to configure anything about it.

It's better than a standard xbox series pad, and not as bad as anything 8bitdo or the gulikit KK3 (KK2 was great), but it's pretty shit compared to a modded elite v2. You could do better for less with a gamesir cyclone or some other budget pad if money is the issue.

Question, have you ever tried a genesis or saturn-style dpad? you would probably really like them. I wish they came back into vogue. The 360 pad was vaguely based on them but is much worse in build quality. (not sure about the xbone or series sex as I've never handled those controllers)

Just get spare parts for your elite v2.

The first thing that fails is the sticks, but you can't use hall effect for the left (get alps, not sure about tmr but hall def doesn't work). You can actually use hall effect / tmr for the right stick though, but you have to use the xbox app to calibrate it.

The next thing that fails is the shoulder buttons. You can get cheap replacements that last a lot longer, which are the same as the shoulder buttons from the elite v1 (Microshit cheaped out on these for the v2 for some fucking reason).

Finally, get a new shell. The rubberized grip turns gummy and literally falls apart. You can find good replacement shells without the shitty rubber coating anywhere that sells chinkparts.

If your back buttons go to shit, chinkazon sells replacements for those too.

Save your elite v2 bro. Get the parts, learn to solder. It's the only decent controller out there and I'm not kidding. If you have one, clean it up, learn how to take it apart, mod it and love it until you die.
