Every plothole in why they didnt do XYZ with The Ring was addressed. They ask in Fellowship why dont they just toss it into the ocean and deduce that it would eventually be fished up and end up back in Saurons hands. The Ring affects all life, Gandalf too who is a demigod angel. All of this nonsense is just avoiding the one simple fact: it needs to be destroyed in the fires of Mt. Doom. You could toss it into a cavern that is 20,000 feet below sea level and it gets carried by some underground vermin to the surface and Saurons already won by that point.

The whole plan relied on secrecy and hobbit's resistance to corruption. Even then they needed God's intervention.
If they used the eagles, and if they didn't get corrupt, it's safe to assume Sauron would know about their plan, fortify Mount Doom and maybe shit up some flying creatures to defend tbe skies.
The canon answer is that the eagles only answer to Manwë, and he and the valar promised to not interfere in the fate of the people of Middle Earth. The eagles solving the Sauron problem would cross that line.

He can literally change form at will, like all Valar (and Maiar), we are told this on the Valaquenta. He was trying to look amiable to the elves, so he first took on a chill shape, like Sauron did later, but when the gig was up he took on a shape fit for fighting, we are explicitly told his steps rent the earth and made pits.

No. "Life" is not some linguistic platonic ideal in Erda. Life is part of the song of Iluvatar. Tom's song is a buried motif that is in parallel to Iluvatar's song, so he's not part of "life". He's just "alive".

If he ain't part of life then the hobbits shouldn't have been able to interact with him. Sounds more like you're making up all sorts of nonsense just because it got pointed out that Tommy boy isn't affected by the ring.

Just to make it clear what the inspiration for this is. The "wizard" archetype in mythology, not superstition, is Odin. Odin is based upon Mithras, and human magic practitioners would have to initiate into the footsteps of Mithras by mastering the spheres represented by the "gods".
Catholicism represents these "gods" as archangels, and esoteric Christianity has Christ walk the steps of the archangels (in the model of Solomon and Jacob) to assume the mantle of the Heavenly High Priest.

You can think of the Maiar as Archangels and the Valar as Aions.

The ability to interact in limited ways with the outside world, according to rules, is something Iluvatar including in his song as a courtesy to his predecessor.
There's a reason why Bombadil can touch the ring with no problem, and why he's also unable to keep it. His little girlfriend is basically Gaia but rendered down to the position of a forest nymph.

Sam was affected and that's part of what makes him one of, if not, the best characters. He actually grows quite a bit and by the end of the 3rd movie he's more of a hero than some of the "major" characters/fighters. The main warriors know shits gonna hit the fan. Sam has some freaky, malnourished hobbit fucking hit shit up out of nowhere half the time and then has to fuck with a giant spider to save Frodo. A spider that most likely would've fucked up Aargon, Legolas, and Gimili, even if that fought together. Stfu if you think Rudy didn't carry the whole fucking franchise desu.

I'm not some expert in Tolkien lore. But if what the other guy says is true, there are other characters who work outside of "gods song." Morgoth is another who is outside of the boundaries. Singing "in discord with the song of Arda." So it's possible there's other characters who could be as well.

Tom is probably just off singing his own song. Like a kid who's bored and just starts singing something from Bluey while his parents dragged him to a Mozart concert.

Isn't Gandalf itself the plothole? Gandalf the white is actually far more powerful than is depicted and could solve nearly all problems in the film. However he is only allowed to interfere in limited ways but how much he interferes is so inconsistent he is pretty much just a plot device that can be always used whenever needed by the plot to do whatever needed.

Gandalf is commentary on grace vs. works. Gandalf does what is within the ability of men (mostly) but which they fail to do through their fallen natures. His intervention parallels that of Christ, who lived a perfect mortal life that technically any mortal could have lived, but no one ever does.
Gandalf is an artifact of grace. He can't do much beyond what men *could* do or it breaks the rules and causes discord in the song. However, he can do what men *won't* do as a grace from above.

>Hurrr durrr why didn’t X take the ring? Why didn’t they do X.
Tolkien literally could not have made it clearer that only hobbits were resistant enough to the rings influence to have a CHANCE of destroying it
Because they would have been corrupted and the free peoples would have been enslaved to darkness.
Aragorn and his armies would have LOST had the ring not been destroyed. All of middle earth would have fallen to Sauron’s overwhelming might, of which he was saving his best and most powerful soldiers behind the black gate.
Also Frodo LOST, he succumbed to the rings temptation at the very end and he would have doomed all of Middle earth had Sméagol not been there and take it in an act of fate.
The Eagles taking the ring would have just resulted in them fucking off far away to become Eagle-Kings while middle earth fell to darkness.
They won because the stars aligned perfectly to grant them victory.

Believing to be intelligent is beneficial for mental health but too common it has become to seek validation of one's own intelligence by looking down on others. It replaces the need of actual accomplishments.

Doesn't matter Sauron was getting stronger day by day. The movies don't show it but he already regained a physical form beyond the eye.

It's like Star Wars. Destroying the first Death Star weakened the empire, but Darth Sidious was still in power. If the rebels didn't destroy the second Death Star with the weakness patched, they'd be fucked.

The rat would have become eventually be seduced by the rings power and try to wear it. Then it'd be strong enough to kill hobbits. If it happens in the middle of Mordor when they ran out of food, the rat would have killed and ate them. If any of them ran away Sauron and his forces would be alerted to their presence anyways.

I disliked how perfect Aragorn was till they brought up the plot point that he is extremely old and just looks young because he is a very special breed of human that has a longer life span. For me something like this is an example of good writing because it's a minor detail that takes no effort to include except for the fact you have to realize it would make more sense that way. Most retarded plot points anywhere can be solved just as easily but writers just don't bother.

Nope. The rings Sauron gave the Dwarves made them into greedy assholes. They would have gone to war with each other to get The One Ring.

IIRC Gimli wanted to use it's power to reclaim one of the mines for his family.

No, dwarves still had lofty ambitions and were corruptible with promises of riches and glory. The average dwarf was unfit to be a ring bearer

Gandalf handles the ring like it’s going to poison him and Tom Bombadil is either Eru or Tolkien’s self insert. Faramir also is tempted but never actually touches it.

The talking (really, intelligently thinking) fox and the talking birds are some of the reasons I think it's stupid people whine about the poor widdle baby orcs and their redeemable souls.
Though to be fair, Tolkien succumbed to this worry as well.
Anyway, there are many "intelligent" creatures in Middle Earth that can talk or think but they aren't said to have souls, and the talking fox and birds aren't magical flying Great Eagles, but simple animals that according to Catholic dogma explicitly don't have souls. The question of orc "life" or "intelligence" is just that they're like any other soulless being, even similar to the talking birds, except they also have hands to make things.
Nobody cares about whether the birds, trolls or ents have redeemable souls that will go to heaven, so why do people care so much for orcs when they're the most destructive and cruel?

>>717314723
I think that's the Hobbit, but it might be an appendix entry about eagles. I remember the issue was the eagles loved eating sheep that the woodsmen herded. The simple woodsmen that were afraid of orc raids and giants spiders had longbows and so were an overwhelmingly dangerous threat to the Great Eagles.
