The contrast between someone like alex vs like a hugo or a zangief is that Alex's grab is not the end all be all and Alex has good movement to get in and create oki. In fact, his kara throw is roughly a better option than his powerbomb in 3S. He gives high stun and high damage, has better mobility options (EX elbow is legit great), and has stuff like command normals that bait parry (back hp that's a hitgrab). Hugo and Gief are a bit slower (they still can have things to get in like green hand)

Basically, at any given moment gief and hugos best option when right in front of someone is to do their main command grab. Alex's options are a bit more broad, but sacrifice that raw tantalizing option

also grapplers and zoners are based. It's always easier to be the one offending than the one needing to block, so naturally OP just thinks he's playing 500IQ chess by doing stupid shit that skips neutral and creates 50/50 lose situations for the dude praying he blocked right.

yeah everything you said there is why I love playing the dude so much; his command grab is even set up to be a combo finisher with his heavy chop which is so fucking rad. In 3 they kind of made him to be the new Ryu, so he's a grappler made with the design philosophy of a shoto and he's a fucking fascinating character that really only could have been made at that moment in time. They specifically wanted a pro wrestler protag for a western audience and they designed him to be easy and versatile as a result. He's got a fun as fuck kit.

Remy is really cool but they'd have to find new moves for him given Sagat and Guile are both in 6 and he's pretty similar to them. Even Dee Jay has something similar to his fancy kick and he's a charge projectile guy too.

every fireball for a zoner is a gamble, if you guess wrong or throw a badly timed one you're going to eat a full jumpin punish, at least that's the case for zoners that are well balanced.

I'd actually argue that the traditional grappler archetype is extremely reactive instead of aggressive.
