You can stack units into "squads" with unit caps and a leader who provides buffs, and move them around the map as a one-tile thing
but when you have a battle it basicalkt cordons of a 10x10 tile area of the map centered between you and the enemy and you can position your units on your half then have a multi-turn fight involving all the individual units in one main-game turn, and after winning or drawing you condense back to the original tile
I thought it was a very good way to handle combat for a 4x, a balance between deathstacks and pawnswarms on the world map, and it made it easier to tailor your armies toward your strengths
The rest of the game is so-so but that part is a very nice mechanic
