I'm still using a official wired black 360 controller I bought from when the 360 was still alive to play my Steam games.

I've had to replace the thumbsticks at least twice now, but I dread the day when it's no longer useable.

Looking at the teardown it makes more obvious.
It has no "key" to keep the disc from spinning, and it has 8 "buttons" that can be turned into 16 directions if you check for two buttons pressed.

I think the Xbone controller is less comfortable in the hand and I the D-pad is still bad. The Wii U tablet controller is an absolute monster that killed the console. I don't much care for the PS4 controller either, but its more of a meh than genuine dislike. I dislike most of those modern PC controllers that are built like an Xbone controller.

Ergonomically it was really comfortable and it took AAs.

the gamecube controller had many problems, the d pad, the c stick, missing a shoulder button, but I don't think size was one of them. I have enormous hands fit for the duke, and I never found the gamecube controller anything less than comfortable.

The button layout worked well when games were designed for it but a lot of third party ports had pretty horrendous controls compared to the xbox and ps2. Its for the best that Nintendo started making more standard controllers (other than the wiimote of course).

The only controller I use that has any noticeable deadzone problem is the chinesium PS2 controller I use on my PS2 because I wanted a wireless controller. My 360 controllers are basically perfect. Never noticed any latency problems at all even on said chinesium.

Most shooter games would be genuinely unplayable without sticks. The only ones that wouldn't are ones with a really aggressive lock on feature or no vertical aim like Doom.

Great controller aside form the d-pad.
analog had barely any deadzone so I was able to play 2D games comfortably with the analog stick too. Could repeated triangle jump and non-stop Omnia Vanitas like a pro in Harmony of Despair.
