99% of the gameplay systems in Nioh are only useful in the post-game. You can play it as a Diablo-like (switch to high-level gear you find around) and finish the game normally.
Some stages even have aids during boss fights if you forget to bring talismans (like the funeral pyres back in Nioh 1).

If you just want to finish the game, don't bother looking into that stuff. Nioh 1 had some crap about "defiling" weapons too, and to really use it properly you had to finish the game 4 times first.

don't worry about the numbers shit too much until you get to NG+++ and beyond. Just replace your shit with higher number and learning enemy patterns so you can dodge everything.

You can (and should) ignore the whole equipment autism for the first playthrough. Just equip anything with the highest attack / defense and sell / melt the rest. All good sets are unlock at NG+ and further and by the time you reach it you will learn everything naturally.

That stuff is for min-maxers. I like to compare it to Disgaea. The final boss is level 75, but you can go up to level 9999, nothing is stopping you. There's the Item World in Disgaea, which is a time sink that you never need to just finish the game (and sometimes not even to defeat the superbosses). You waste 4 hours of your life to level a single item up "perfectly', and the only thing it does is one-shot everything. It's worthless because you already finished the game to get there.
Same with Nioh. You don't need to do any of that just to finish the game. That's for when you want to waste your time min-maxing.

ok cool I guess I was just fretting too much over all the stuff that was popping up. if I can put all those aside and just play like a tard then that sounds like a good time.

any tips with the ki pulse mechanic? I keep having to look at the stamina bar to make sure I get the full recovery and then I get smacked by the enemy because I wasn't looking at them.

There's a visual cue (the blue sparkles swirling around you), it's better to look at it instead of the bar. The timing is not that tight, and it's better to hit it later rather than early.
Look up the skill tree, there are skills to ki pulse even while dodge rolling.

you don't have to perfect ki pulse all the time, otherwise you wouldn't be able to attack as fast. Just perfect Ki pulse after your opening to hit the opponent is about to end. Also the timing to ki pulse on all attacks is the same and will be easy muscle memory

I thought the dlc for these games is balanced for super autists who did nothing but improve their gear since release.

They are harder than base game, but still perfectly doable without any hardcore gear optimization.
And there is also an easy trick you can use:
>start the first mission on ng+ mission and farm phantoms for ng+ gear
>go to dlc missions on normal ng difficulty but with slightly better gear

The game is fun up until the last couple of paths where you just burn out. It's a test of endurance for how much bullshit mechanics you can take without ruining the fun. I have autism so I had fun up until the depths and that just felt too repetitive and chore like, but your mileage may vary.

Depths is the super ultra autism mode for when you finish 108 floors of UW. Wasn't for me.

I hope nioh 3's endgame will be better. Even just going up the difficulties could be more improved besides giving you more ways to be powerful (though it does feel good, just not skillfully fulfilling)

I started with SoP first but I will say I like the Nioh's more. SoP is still a very good game, I wished they didn't try to casualize the gameplay

Then you can't go wrong with either. But overall Nioh games are better. Plus Nioh 3 soon.

Both then. Nioh is incredible but sop is so underrated it's a crime. Also very unique combat system for sop

Also, did you not play the tutorial, which isn't the best, but it teaches you some of the basics at the very least.

Given how 2's end game was more "diablo like" than 1, I'm not so sure TN can do end games that don't center around the RNG loot fest.
Adding DLC enemies was a nice touch but the repetitiveness of rushing through the same levels for hours just to unlock the next difficulty that makes all your gear obsolete gets tiresome after the first 2 runs.
You could argue that most players are satisfied playing through the first couple of dreams and that the rest is for minmax autismos, and I think is TN would agree.

I hope they take notes from Wo Long and have a randomised endgame mode with various bonuses. I liked have supped up regular enemy waves inbetween boss rushes without the mediocre levels you have to run through in the Abyss type missions.

I wish they'd move on from sengoku already. I mean it's a cool historical period, but you can only milk it so much.
