In ME2 you have the option of cloaking up to your enemy and shooting them in the face. It's like a paper version of Vanguard.

I usually go
Vanguard with Decryption then Infiltrator with Reave and end up as Sentinel with Ammo. I don't enjoy pure classes as it is just 10 flavors of pew pew, woosh woosh or click click.

Probably depends on difficulty but on Insanity I usually lose all shields when Marauder looks at me sideways even with Tech Armor and Shield enhancements so I guess you'll get raped the second you leave cloak.
